Exactly the right question. People define "afford" differently. I'm 50+ and just decided I could "afford" my G. Own my house, 2 colleges paid for, 2 girls weddings paid for, retirement investment is in place. For me, I feel that now I can afford my G and bought it cash...but that's just me.

The other way to look at it may be as a 25 yr old with good job and few responsibilities at this time. He may be able to "afford" his G now... and in 10 years he's back to driving a '98 Chrysler Minivan. Definiton of afford changes depending on lifes circumstances.
why did you pay for your daughters weddings? i say screwed that and make them pay for it.

26, own my home, have only $7K in school loans, paid the rest of my debt off. I've driven a beater for 7 months after selling my G to get to the point to afford the G.

I can have vacations, golf, hell...just bought an 08 Honda CRF230. No worries here for affording.

I am 26 and as you all can tell spend a good chunk on my car. i can afford this b/c i am single. when i had a girl who i thought i was going to marry this car was not going to be in my garage. Things change in life. I can afford this b/c now im single again. I used to go out more but thats a waste of time to. So more money saved. I do enjoy eating out but thats about it. going to bars and clubs gets me in lots of trouble so now im more of a home body. Maybe once things change my car will to. but for now, im doing ok.

^^^Exactly...definition of "afford" changes with priorities in life. That's what makes these forums interesting. People at all different points of their life come together to discuss one thing they all have in common...in this case, our G37's.

Please tell me you're not serious with that comment.

What info are you referring to? I guess that info does become pretty "stupid" if you don't happen to know anyone who would want the G.

You need to get out and meet more people. I am 47 and I love my G. I also have a 93 MR2 that I will probably keep forever. For me, there will always be a sporty car in my life. Yes I have 2 kids. One 20 and the other 16. Throughout their childhoods I have always owned some type of sports car. My daughter's favorite was the 911 Targa we had for 10 years. There has always been an SUV or sedan in the stable for long trips or when everyone needed to be in the same car. My attraction to the G was the sportiness combined with lots of technology goodies at a good price point. I may not be typical....but I vowed never to own a minivan.

i know many families who don't drive 50k sports coupes b/c its not practical. you guys might live in very nice affluent neighborhoods where everyone has 3 or 4 cars. that is not common in america. Most parents would rather drive a camry and give to their kids than have 3 cars. i know once i get married and have kids if money ain't FLOWING and i mean FLOWING then i will downgrade to what lets me buy my kids what they want and keeps my wife at home with them. I guess we are not all in the same boats. I know that most of the people on the road driving this car are at least 35 if not older. its rare outside our meets to see kids or even people "our age" driving.

I'm a little confused here. You are paying off $1,200,000 in five years? And, that's a good chunk of your income? So, your income (disposable available to pay business debt) is over $300,000 a year? And, you are still in college? And, I think, live with your parents or your parents pay your living overhead? Actually, I'm more than a little confused here.

Valid points, as I do not spend that much money on anything else, dont own a house, and dont have investments.

To the guy who said I was born with a silver spoon in my mouth or whatever your right... i live with my parents...they pay for almost everything! and i wouldnt change this for the world... not my fault you couldnt live like this... d1ckk...

I don't think he's was trying to be a d1ck...I think he was responding to your assumption that if a person can't afford a "40K car till' they are 40 they must have been working at McDonalds all their life." you're trying to project some sort of standard of success in life when it is apparent that you still have not left the nest. just giving you some light on why people's reactions here are a bit prickly....a lot of people work very hard and most of their money are directed to other things. Luxury sport coupes are toys. and by no means an indication of "success".
