Registration/Insurance?

ok, heres the deal. i'm planning on going out of town this weekend, 6 hours away... but i have no registration or bill of sale for my car because the dealership sold me the car online.... nothing except my drivers license incase of a roadblock or if i would happen to get pulled over.

i asked them if it would be ok for me to still drive out of town, and they told me it would be fine... what should i do? i'm not even 100% sure if the car is covered by insurance? since i have no registration...?

Um how could they not have given you a temp. registration?? You need to contact them before you go out of town because it is required to have your registration available by law.

Do you currently have insurance on any other vehicles? If so, you are most likely covered for a period of 14-30 days depending on what state and ins. company you are with.

Depends on the State.
Don't you have temporary tags and an insurance id card?

How did you take delivery of a car with no paperwork? How is that even possible?

I'd be on the phone right now with the dealer getting them to overnight you something. That's outrageous! Surprised you didn't get anything with the car when it was delivered.

wow... no wonder dad flipped... he asked me for the registration for it yesterday, and i didnt even know what that was lol.

so they should be able to send me something temporarily? They said something about not being able to transfer my car into my name until everything from the car i traded in was cleared up.

You should at least have a bill of sale... Something that shows you paid money for it.

I live in NY and bought mine in NJ. They needed proof of insuarance to give me a temp NJ tag to post in the rear window. I had to wait a couple weeks for their finance dept to send the certificate of origin before I could apply for a NYS title and license/register the vehicle.

That should be fine... In most states you have 30 days to register the car. Have you informed your insurance company? Most insurance companies give you 15 days to let them know, but to be on the safe side, let them know ASAP.
