Question for you guys getting like 18mpg... I get about 13-14 mpg so I was wondering what rpm you guys shift at? I have a 5AT and I let her shift at between 3-4k rpm in 1st gear, then til 3k rpm in 2nd, 2-3k rpm in 3rd and by then im at/around the street speed limit (40-50 mph). Is this why I get some poor mpg? What rpms do u guys shift at??

The entire Infiniti line is known to be thirsty. Although I have managed to get 23MPG with my 04 with all Highway driving, I get 14-15 with all city driving. I can see that Infiniti has not attempted to improve fuel efficiency on the newer models.

For just commuting and getting around, I shift at around 3k rpm, no more than 3.5k. That gives me about 17-18mpg I think. Other times, I could shift anywhere from 4-6k rpm. Still, the average is around 18. Highway, sometimes just messing around, shifting around 4-5k rpm. How many miles do you have on your car so far?

When I had mine for about 1000miles. I was getting 15-16mpg like you. But as you put some more mileage on it, it should start to improve. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

My commute is 95% hwy with spirited stints before and after. I'm at 2k now and consistently get 22MPG, that is the absolute best I have seen.

I'm getting about 20mpg with aggressive driving once in a blue moon, but only have ~1950 miles right now. I expect 22-23 once it breaks in.

MPG Test

Yesterday we took a long drive to see what the mileage would be. I've been getting around 18 with mixed h'way/city driving. We drove from Encinitas, CA (north of San Diego) to Santa Barbara, a total of 400 miles round trip with the ICC set at 75 mph. At the end of the day we racked up 23.6 mpg. The car had about 2600 miles when we started. Only occasionally was it necessary to speed up to pass someone and on the return trip there were some some heavy traffic spots. The ICC seems a little goofy at times (like a drunk might drive) but I was generally pleased with it and glad that I got it. Fortunately, we did not get any tickets for obstructing traffic on the California freeway system. Anther part of the test was to see if I could sit comfortably for the nearly three-hour trip each way (most car seats give me a backache after two hours). Pleased to say that I was very comfortable all day, much to my surprise.

One more thought, the California freeways are not what they used to be and the sport suspension can be quite punishing at times. Wish I has a Tien ECFD system!

I just bombed down to Portland, OR from seattle, WA. 197 miles through rain and a couple of slow doans, on cruise control at 75-78 mph and ended up getting 23 mpg.

I was hoping for more like 25-26 but I'll take this.

This is about 75% hwy. with cruise...which is a good idea from both an mpg and no speeding ticket point of view.

Not hammering it yet...still breaking in...totally loving the 6-speed! although still going through the learning curve of shifting smoothly..
Don't use cruise control during break in, you need to vary your speed for a proper break in.

thanks for the reminder...didn't go that far and have made an effort to vary the rpms...

looking forward to varying them right up to 7500!!! pretty soon!

got about 21 on second tank because of different driving...still not bad...considering what this car is capable of...

it'l be like my friends IS300, has 80000 miles on it with no wear on the brake pads.
I traded in my 2002 IS300 for a G37. The first time I replaced brake pads on the IS was at 92K miles.
