Start button and theft

I was just thinking what would happen if the G-coupe would be turned-on with the start button, and then left on to warm the car up in the wintertime. Then you'd go back inside until the car interior is fully warm.

But what if someone tries to take your car? They wouldn't know how to turn the car off, or if they just drove away in it, they'd only get as far as until they turn the car off or the fuel has run out.

So in essence, the start button and the FOB is kind of a theft-deterrent, yes?

... I'm confused. Maybe it's just that I'm tired.

Your car would still be just as stolen; the thief would just be unable to start it again after they turned off the ignition.

let me try andd understand..you want to take the key fob inside your house after you start the car and lock the door, so you can warm it up but the doors are locked?!?!?! is that what you mean???

the second question in there is, can it be stolen then...anything can be stolen..lol...

Once the car is on it doesn't matter if the key is present or not... Once the car has been turned off though it would not be able to start again without the fob.

My first comment would be..This is a bad idea from the start..leaving your car on while your away to let it warm up...BAD IDEA any way you go with that. Don't do it!

And why do you think that the dude who is going to drive your car to his yard and strip it cares about breaking your driver-side window? If I can part out your $39K car for $2K, let alone $12K, I'll be looking for that warmer upper in your driveway.

exactly!! why are you guys even talkin about this? this sounds so crazy.....you start your car and walk away and you then worry if someone will steal it?/!! You giving them an open invite to steal it. If you live in such cold weather deal with it...stay in the car til in warmms up then drive off. if you hate the cold so much...move to FL

I am assuming that using the key fob to start and then walking away u have the option to lock it and the car will allow U to do so as long as the key is not detected to be within the car's interior as it can detect so...So if you are doing the warm up walk away, I would prob lock it and make sure I have the key in possession if its in ur driveway.

me personally i live in suburbia which is like the polar opposite of ghetto a$s Detroit...Im far away enough from the plethora of crooks south of 8 Mile Road but in case one of them hop scotches up to my town looking for a warming G, they will find it locked and probably find my foot up their a$s too.

What I do is warm it in my garage with my garage car main door up just 2 ft enough to let out the exhaust...i find that secure enough in my area....i dont walk away for more than 3-4 mins. anyway

It does? Did you add a module to do that?

I tried walking away with the key fob after turning on the ignition on an Altima and it stayed on. I assume it's the same for the G.

LOL at people from the south who have no clue. For us who have to deal with winter, it is being done all the time, in the morning before heading to work. Depends on your neightbourhood. With a key, you would just lock the door when you walk away. The thread starter was probably simply wondering if the door locked automatically or not
