I paid $2.89 / gallon last time I filled up. Both of my cars take premium fuel, I just figure that's part of the price of fun cars

My highest was probably $52.00.

My lowest was around $44.50. I usually go to shell, and wait until wednesday-Thursday when they do the $0.05 price drop. The shell on Benning Rd or Addison Rd is where I usually go.

Talk about cutting it close, be mindful of the "miles to empty" counter. I got home last week with 35 miles to empty on the display. I had an important meeting about 10 miles away from the house, so I figured I would fill up on the way home.

As I drove down the interstate, in the course of six miles, the display went from 35 miles left to 4!!! Talk about almost crap your pants.

I had to dive off the interstate pump a few gallons and then hurry to my meeting. I've never had a car with a miles to empty display do that to me.

That's what happened to me. Had about 20 miles or so to empty. I also figured they were giving me a over estimate to be safe, but still wanted to fill up soon anyway. Figured i'd do it on my way home, as i was already 1 min from my office.

After work, started the car up... still said 20 miles or so to empty, then 1 min later it was flashing "- -- -" indicating ZERO miles. I was like WTF!? Drove another few min to the gas station.

You guys look at your gas indicator right? The mileage until empty is great and all but if you are getting below that last peg on the indicator you might want to fill up regards if it tells you you can go another 35miles.

Luckily Michigan is a gasoline state (even though we have more construction cones than cars) but right now I'm payng about $3.15/gallon on Premium puttin me right at about $52...Just be glad you're not in Illinois where gas is a Biyatch. I was born and lived near ChiTown as a youngster and I still go back time to time and make sure to gas up in Indiana before entering IL.

Started this morning with 24 miles to go. With dropping off kid#1 to high school which is only 4 miles away. I was down to 6 miles to go, at the traffic light with 2 actual miles to go. Getting to the high school, the fuel indicator was on empty, with 0 miles to go. Kid#1 wished me good luck on getting gas, since the high school is a bit remote. So on to next destaination where kid#2 goes to elementary school. About 8 miles from here. Being that the car is new, not sure how long I can go on empty tank. I think in the episode from Seinfeld, Kramer in a saab did 30 or 40 miles when the fuel indicator was empty. So I go another 8 miles fill up, $56 and change since this lousy gas station is a ripoff at $3.25 for premium, and 17.3 gals. The costco here is $2.95 for premium. I believe there are 18 gals+ in the vehicle, so I was still good for another 10-30 miles I figure. Kid#2 was late for school.

Lesson learned, 24 miles is not really 24 miles when you start in the morning.

However, look at the price of gas compared to the price of other things. It's really cheap when adjusted for inflation.
I remember around 10 years ago or so (damn I wasn't driving then), I saw gas as low as 80 cents per gallon. I remember complaining about 1.50 when I started driving a couple years later.

Every day this month, I've asked myself why the hell am I buying a car that's rated 17/26 when gas is in the mid 3 dollar range.
