370GT Sales breakdown

Stumbled across some interesting info about how sales are going for the Skyline coupe in Japan.

In the first two weeks of sales they have orders for 1562 cars, and the target for monthly sales was 200 cars.

Breakdown on models ordered:
Type SP A/T - 30.6%
Type SP M/T - 6.3%
Type S A/T - 20.6%
Type S M/T - 14.9%
Type P A/T - 12.0%
Base A/T - 15.6%

Breakdown on colors:
Vibrant Red - 13.8%
Luna Mare Silver - 14.0%
Super Black - 22.4%
Brilliant Silver - 17.3%
Fountain Blue - 4.8%
Stolfia?? Blue - 4.7%
Pearl White - 23.0%

Breakdown of buyer age and sex:
20's - M(5.7%) F(0.2%) Total 5.9%
30's - M(20.6%) F(0.7%) Total 21.4%
40's - M(25.5%) F(1.4%) Total 26.9%
50's - M(26.9%) F(2.3%) Total 29.3%
60's+ - M(15.4%) F(1.1%) Total 16.5%

Interior color:
Black - 86.2%
Fauve - 13.8%

The fact that they have orders for over 1500 cars in the first 2 weeks explains why I have to wait until February for my car. Hope you enjoy the numbers. And FYI, I got them from a Nissan press release.

All in all, taste in Japan is not much different then in North America it would seem. Black and White are the 2 dominant colours and so is AT over MT.

Pretty cool data btw, especially after only 2 weeks of sale. But obviously, it will not stay as strong as the current trend after the new car effect goes away.

I wasn't that surprised by the data either, but I was surprised by the number of cars they have sold in only 2 weeks. And agreed the pace will drop off very quickly if it already hasn't, but still happy to see Nissan/Infiniti with a successful launch.

I guess the most surprising bit of info for me was the fact that there were actually quite a few women who have ordered the car. In the States there are a lot of women who drove/drive the G35 coupe, but driving such a car in Japan is quite rare for a women. They would rather drive a BMW or Benz for the status it is supposed to provide. But this is just an expensive Nissan here, so was surprised and pleased to see that some women understand the value of this car.

It's not surprising really. Black = high maintenance. There are actually many folks who like black vehicles but are unwilling to maintain them and thus shy away from purchasing black instead going with white (oddly enough) or something that's at least a bit easier to take care of. Not to mention KH3 has no metallic or pearlescent in it making it one of the hardest blacks to keep clean. .
