It's an American epidemic. The people, as well as the cars are getting heavier. Everything is obesed!
Seriously though. The G37 is a sports luxury coupe. Meaning it has all the luxurious goodies as well as sportiness to back it up. The design team or whoever is responsible probably didn't care much about saving weight. They know that not a lot of future G37 owners wouldn't care about the car's weight. Those who take the car to the track for drag/drift/time attack, whatever would only consist of a small percentage of G37 owners.
I myself don't mind the car's weight at all. When I get mine (hopefully by the end of the year), it will be the most powerful, expensive and luxurious car that I will own.
Does anyone have any evidence that there is additional sound deadening material? Is so... where did they put it?
Just drive an '08. You will immediately have your evidence. It is much quieter than the G35. Also the car is more ridgind thatn the G35, you often to add weight to add rigidity.
