Sub par Sales man?

OK so this is my first new car and it is alot of money to me. So i sent an email to my salesman asking a fewe questions about my car i ordered. Let me know if I was being rude or if he is not being very helpful.

See email below

ME:

Dennis;

I am writing in regards to the OB on black G37S I ordered. I was checking to see if you had a firmer date on delivery and if you could get me a VIN for this car. I also wanted to confirm the options that were ordered. G37Coupe sport package (5AT),with the high tech package, and NO 4WAS.

I also want to request that the front license plate mount NOT be installed and that no dealer stickers are placed on the car. I plan on being in the city on Saturday and would like to take a test drive.

Hope to see you soon;

Stephen Humby

DEALER:

We do not have a VIN as of yet and the package is correct, 2008 Infiniti G37 coupe 5AT Sport package and technology package. We do not install front licence plate frames nor do we have dealer stickers on them, the only thing we add on is a chrome Infiniti plate frame, but when you see it you can keep it on or we can not put it on. Saturday is fine for a drive and the only car we have will be a manual transmission sport package, so if that works for you when were you thinking of coming Saturday? I look forward to your reply.

Thanks

ME:

Dennis;

I missed out on last weekend but might make it in on this Saturday afternoon. I need to know more about the paint sealant you use. What type and how many coats as well is a wax applied afterwards is it clay bared first?. After talking to many people I am quite concerned about letting you (the dealership) detailing my black car I have heard quite a few stories about swirled marks and scratches. This Car is going to be my baby and I worried about it. Do you have pics of other cars ( black) that have come from your showroom? As well if I decide to detail the car myself I would need to wait on the installation of the 3M.

DEALER:

You would have to ask Cheryl or Christine in the business office as to the exact details of the paint sealant and how it is applied as she is more familiar with the process than I am. I don’t have any pictures but from the delivery there have been no issues with black cars, the only swirling or anything has come from the factory. There have been issues when just the regular wash guys wash the cars when your car comes in for service but we have specific detailers that do showroom and delivery details and they are detailers not just wash guys. If you prefer though we can deliver the car to you dirty and leave the detailing to you and you can take the car to our 3M guy after, it is all up to your personal preference. I will be away from the dealership from Wednesday September 26 to Saturday September 29, but will be in later in the afternoon so if you would like I can only take you for a drive between 3:30 to 4:45. You can email me back if this works for you.

What do you guys/girls thing?

It sounds like he is being very patient with you. I'm pretty sure my salesperson would get tired of the obsessing.

I just told them not to mess with the car, don't wash it, don't detail it, just remove the shipping plastic to inspect for flaws. I told them I am a detailer and trust myself more than them -- they were fine with that. I'm sure it saved them some money and increased profit on what was already a great deal.

As for the paint sealant -- snake oil, IMO, don't waste your money.

Looks good to me both ways as well.
It sounds like you trust yourself more than the dealer to prep the car -- thats fair enough. But with that given, I wouldn't expect (or even bother asking) the salesman to know what type of sealant or exact process they use, nor would I expect him to go out on a limb to find out. Considering salesmen often give incorrect info, would you trust what he would tell you anyway?

Yep what Mal TX said... I used to work for a detail shop- my cousin owns one. The paint sealant is pure snake oil.

I agree 100% with everything said.

I'd back off and let the car come in. The wait is killer, but it will be worth it, trust me!

Your salesperson is being extremely patient and fair IMO, props to him for that. As for your question, if you are that concerned swirl marks, just tell them to deliver it dirty and then you can detail it yourself.

Don't take it the wrong way but don't get so **** on this bro.

It's cool confirming (in an email) about no front license plate mount but what you ordered should be on your sales order which you signed and agreed to so that should be a no brainer.

If all that is in order, chill out and wait for your new ride to get to the dealership. This should be a happy time in your life, don't make it a drag bro.

I went through the same song and dance. It is not unusual for a customer to verify "NO DEALER STICKERS", "NO FRONT LICENSE PLATE", "NO AMATURE DETAILING".

I did it. Just be prepared to spend a few hours carefully removing the adhesive lines embedded with dirt. Get 3M Adhesive Remover from your local parts store, in the paint and bodywork aisle. It comes in a metal flask-like container. Will not hurt the paint, but will remove wax, bugs, sealant, adhesive, tar, crayon, grease, brake dust, down to the bare clear coat. It is used to clean surfaces before painting.

I have driven new cars 300+ miles with the plastic on. I just made sure that none of it was flapping, which will damage the paint.

When you are spending close to 50 BIG ONES on an item, a little customer service is called for.

Salesman is very patient. Actually quite good in answering all your questions!

In your situation, I'd let them detail it, enjoy the car a couple of weeks or so, maybe a month before touching it in terms of detailing.

Enjoy the car as it comes, then obsess about it later. It'll make for a more enjoyable delivery!

I can't agree about letting them detail it. If you're going to be obsessive about the paint looking good, on OB especially, you want to do it yourself. Just make sure you have time to do it after taking delivery, because nobody wants to drive a filthy brand new car around.

It took me over 8 hrs with my PC and menzerna intensive polish/orange, final polish 2/white to get the paint on my 06 OB coupe looking healthy again. It had significant swirl marks and also hard water spots from dealer prep. After that I decided I won't allow my cars to be prepped by those yahoos ever again...

I guess there's no arguing with or reasoning with OCD's.

To each his own then..I don't know why people ask on the forums anyway if they know the answer already.

Shumby, what's the exact problem you're having with the salesman? he seems great to me. In truth he seems a lot better then the sales experience I had. At least he seems to respond to your obsessing with prompt informative replies. Sometimes I would get replies other times nothing, most of them not even answering what I asked.

The thing that worried me was that my car snuck in completely under the radar. He didn't have a status one day, then all of a sudden boom my car was in. That's communication for you.

In Alberta we don't require the front plate, they just give the mounting brackets to you in a little baggy along with your cargo net etc. I would recommend you tell them not to install the dealer plate either. Although it's not as offensive as some, they don't pay you for advertising.

When did you order your car by the way? Was it back in May/June? if so your car should be in any day now. Hope you get it before the snow flies in man.

Seems like the guy is very patient - I can't see a problem - wish I was talking to him!

Take it easy - its only a car - it will get dings/scratches soon enough - not saying not to be careful, but don't let it mess up your life. Life is short - just get a new one every 2 to 3 years.
