Trunk not really secure from valet?

It appears that even when one turns off the trunk release power switch in the glove box and locks it using the mechanical key, the trunk is not really secure from a valet. It is still possible to open the folding rear seat from the inside of the car (by reaching in at the fold of the seat and pulling down the red belt loop latch) and get access to the trunk in that manner.

I am thinking that perhaps it is possible to either remove the red belt loop completely or locate it somehow away from hand access at the fold of the seat? I do like the ability to open the folding rear seat from inside the car though!

I noticed this too... not quite sure what to do about it though.

However, after some valet abuse to my '06 TL, I plan on trying to pay the valet and park this one myself. The fewer times the key leaves my pocket, the better.

Page 3-4, owner's manual:

VALET HAND-OFF

When you have to leave a key with a valet, give
them the Intelligent Key itself and keep the
mechanical key with you to protect your belongings.

To prevent the glove box and the trunk from
being opened during valet hand-off, follow the
procedures below.

1. Push the trunk release power cancel switch
to the CANCEL side.

2. Remove the mechanical key from the Intelligent
Key.

3. Lock the glove box and the trunk passthrough
with the mechanical key.

4. Hand the Intelligent Key to the valet, keeping
the mechanical key in your pocket or bag
for insertion into the Intelligent Key when
you retrieve your vehicle.

And it still opens after that?

Evidently, item #3 in the manual must only apply to the G35 sedan since there is no "trunk passthrough" to lock!

Well that's annoying You'd think you'd be able to lock the whole seatback.

Yup i do the same with Valets. I pay them to let me keep my keys with me. I used to be a valet and didn't want to park someones else 150K car. Its kind of scary, so i told them kick me a 10 or 20 and ill let you park it up front and keep the keys. Worked like a charm.

Ill do this and have in the past. Vegas is the hard one to pull that stunt with.

I haven't taken a flashlight into the back to look around yet... but I could imagine that there's a key lock somewhere in the trunk or backseat that allows you to stop the rear seat from laying down. I think the whole seat opening could be referred to as a 'trunk passthrough'

Anyone looked for this?

Is there some kind of switch in the trunk for the back seats maybe?

Mr. Mayor:

Trust me...you CAN (as I have done myself) get the rear seat to unlatch from the inside of the vehicle by reaching into the center of the fold in the seat and pull down on the red latch belt...and there is NO lock (for the mechanical key) for the rear folding seat that we could find.

I am talking about the 2008 G37. See page 1-8 in the manual, since you evidently don't believe me.

Look in the manual, page 1-8 (not the quick reference guide). You will see what I am talking about.
