New To G37 Forum
This is my first post to any forum, thus I’m not as savvy as some of you veteran posters. So please take that
into account.

First I would like to truely thank all G37 owners for being the beta testers for Infiniti and future G37 buyers.
I’m not one who has to be the first on the block with the new ride. Because, I believe in the one line I would
add to the Jim Croce song "Don't’ Mess around with Jim".
{ You don’t tog on superman's cap
You don’t spit in the wind
You don’t pull the mask off the old lone Ranger}
and you don’t buy the first year car model.
Just ask the scores of BMW 335 owner with fuel pump problem what they think.
I’m in the market for either a G or the 335. But I will cool my jets and wait until next year for both manufactures
to correct present and future defects. And at that time IMHO the G’s will be available and at a more competitive
price.
And BTW I think the G37 6mt is the steal of the current group. But, there is a 900 lb gorilla on the horizon in the
BMW Series I. If the fuel pump problem with the bimmer straight 6 turbo is solved with the release of the Series
I next year, that will have a great impact on the G. Because, I read that the price will start in the mid 30’s. And for
the 0 - 60 crowd, it will smoke both the 335 and the G. It weights less than the 335 with the same engine.
In addition, Infiniti has done some bad marketing lately with the delayed update of the web site to reflect the new
G. No brochures at release time of the G. And from a marketing stand point, what were they thinking when they
build a coupe that has a slower 0-60 time than there ’07 sedan, that cost less. The mag tested time for the sedan
is 5.1 (0-60) and the G is 5.3 to 5.5. And, why such a price increase from ‘07 to ’08? I understand there are some
upgrades. I checked the prices on the 07 with the same options on the 08 and the difference is close to 3 grand, what's
up with that?
I love my ’04 G35C and I hope when I test drive the G37 it wow’s me. And if my thoughts about the Series I are
correct it will be a buyers market for the G37.
Thanks guys

Welcome to the forum and I am in the same market as you are. I currently have an 05 G35 coupe and for my next car, which I plan to get around June or July of 08, I will be looking heavily at the G37, 135 and 335 coupe. The good thing is you can't go wrong with either of those three cars. I plan on test driving all three and whichever leaves me smiling the most will be my next car.

All I can say is, if the $3,000 increase from the previous model is due to higher quality materials being used to usher in a "new standard" for the G37 coupe, then I'm all for it. Quite frankly, I'll tap dance whilst paying those "extra" dollars. The G37 is breath-taking machine indeed, and I would like it to stay that way through many years of ownership. I have no problem paying for what I want........which is quality. I do have a problem with paying MSRP for a vehicle only to discover to my dismay that it has thin paint and etc.....(this seems to be the unfortunate norm as of late). If I must pay a nominal $3,000 increase to obtain that level of quality that I am asking for, then so beit.

Coupejoe--If your auto ownership experience has been limited to the list of Asian cars at the beginning of your post, you are probably used to a pretty high level of reliability and more-or-less reasonable maintenance costs. That being said, I would caution you to take a hard critical look before jumping to the BMW. Sure there is something "alluring" about the marque and the performance is sure there (although due to the need to go to turbos). But the two German cars I owned were the worst experience ever in terms of visits to the shop. It got to the point that I always new that when bringing these cars in for even a basic service, they would find a bunch of other expensive things to fix.
Add to that the use of turbos on the performance-oriented BMW models which, to me, is just begging for additional problems.

Thanks for your reply Xenchi
My point was we are charged more for no greater quality. Case in point, my
Lexus windows were stamp with Toyota. Now do you think that same window
would cost the same from both dealer? Lexus charges 125.00 for an oil change, I got the same service from the toyota dealer for 30.00 less the car wash from Lexus, for 100.00 buck I'll wash it myself. so just because you are paying more does not translate to better quality. The G37 is a evolution and not a revolution car. The enterior is from the Sedan an upgrade, but no
revolution there. And I'm sure the quality is good that was never an issue. Note, when Infiniti added this new interior to the '07 sedan. They increased the base price by 600.00.
They increased the pistol stroke and add VVEL to the engine on the G37 , no great wow either. Notice the torque is nearly the same as the G35, which tells me the tranny is the same without 6 speeds.
My concern is that they are shooting themselves in the foot with this big price increase and loss of market shares, then the cut backs will occur. Such as free loaner car when I take it in for service. Not a biggey, but a factor.
Thanks again for your comments

I suspect that all three cars will have you smiling in the short term and, I am fairly confident, the smile will be long term for the G37. For the BMWs--maybe not so much. I (and friends and acquaintances who also owned BMWs at around the same time) were smiling just fine between trips to the service department. After numerous such trips and endless problems, the smile was wiped off my face.
After my ****-poor experience with BMW, I had not really kept up on their models and reliability history until recently when I started researching the 335i along with the G37. So what is the first thing I find on the BMW forums--bunches of complaints from 335i owners about car dying or overheating. The dying is apparently due to fuel pump problems (gee you think by now they would figure out how to build a reliable fuel pump) and the overheating was due to the shortsightedness of not including an oil cooler. Plus I understand that the turbos are mounted fairly close to the transmission in the auto cars which leads to other problems. Owners that had to bring their cars in for the fuel pump fix frequently had to wait a month for a new fuel pump. But BMW owners seem to keep smiling since they are fed that this all goes along with the "Ultimate Driving Experience"

I’m in the same boat. But already own my share of BMWs.
As a very long time reader of this forum, I now decided to join.
Current cars are:
E46 M3 - the mod car
E92 335I - The wifey car
E46 330I - the track/street car
So now I’m trying to get a 6mt G37 as a fun weekend car. I'm a very valid BMW owner. I think the BMW is a great car. 335I > G37 ...but for the price, the g37 is a great car. BMW build quality, especially on the M cars are incomparable to Infiniti. Both cars are great but I consider the 335 in a different category…. More money.
