Convertible opens alone after complete wiring
Convertible opens alone after complete wiring
Hello Guys
I brought my car from the afterlife after it caught fire in the engine bay.
I changed the complete wiring, Computer, Engine, Fuse box, and all the part brought from the scrap yard.
The engine runs smoothly and everything in the car works perfectly except for the convertible.
It opens and closes normally but when you turn off the car and open the driver door the convertible top opens
without even the ignition is on.
What do you think ??

That is a strange issue right there. I have a few ideas, but before I get into trying to diagnose the issue, I need to know:
1) was the wiring "damage" limited to the engine bay?
1.1) Did you replace the damaged wiring harness(es) with a complete OEM replacement or did you cut-and-splice the damaged wires?
2) What "computer" did you replace? And, which fuse box was replaced?
3) Were all of the "junkyard" parts that you replaced specifically from the 'Vert?
4) Is your 'Vert a GCC (Middle East) or US-spec car? Yes, it might make a difference...
Out of my own curiosity, do you have any before and after pics that you would be willing to post?

1)There was a fuel leak and I ignored the smell or the CEL flashing, I had long day at work and decided to send the car the next day to the mechanic, on my way home one good guy saved my life and warn me that there is a fire under the car. I stopped and there was a flame coming behind the passenger tyre and near the exhaust manifold at that point the start button/ could not stop the engine.

1)The replaced Wiring was an OEM harness
2)the ECU behind the glovebox was replaced
3) the diagnostic tool on Automatic detection showed my car is G37 coupe 2011, hence I believe the ECU is related to G37 coupe 2011? Right?
both the engine fuse & cabin fuse box were replaced but I'm not sure was it for coupe or convertible.
4) my car is US specs anyway and I'm not sure what the specs of replaced parts.
Thank you for the very important highlight I will check with the mechanic regarding these information.
Can you tell me what would be your first guess ?
First and foremost thankfully you are safe and nobody was injured.
Do you know if the BCM was also replaced?
In order for the roof to open, either the car has to be ON while pressing the switch or OFF while pressing the door handle request switch. In your case, being the car is OFF and the roof cycles when you open the door, leads me to believe there may be a BCM configuration conflict.
Normally, the BCM will signal the RHT module to cycle the roof (when commanded by the switch(es). Here, something else is triggering the RHT/ roof operation.
The BCM has different configuration files which apply certain features to specific cars. If the car thinks it is a Coupe, it won't behave fully as a 'Vert. This is why it is not suggested to mix BCM's.
My initial thought was a crossed wire somewhere in the harness. However, being the scanner is now identifying your car as a Coupe and not as a 'Vert, leads me to believe that may be a issue.
Does the scanner pull any codes? And do the doors lock/ unlock with the handle switch?

Thank you for your kind words.
the BCM was not replaced but the full harness was replaced ( engine and chassis side).
after your comment yesterday I'm thinking maybe since both the convertible and the door have the same powering method, there is a permanent positive supply and the circuit closes when it's grounded.
the door handle circuit now is closing both circuits. Not through the roof opening switch.
The only error comes when the roof opens while the car is switched off. It's a past error " wrong hydraulic position"
But if you clear the code and diagnose the car while it's running nothing shows even if you operate the roof multiple times.
Being that the BCM was NOT replaced and after going through the diagrams again, the issue then points to either a crossed wire or there is a configuration error somewhere within the IPDM or the ECU.
Remember, these modules also connect and communicate via CANBUS. Something in that door is signaling the BCM to trigger the RHT module to open the roof. Without thorough diagnostic, it is next to impossible for anyone here to know for sure what the trigger is.
The way I see it, it has to either be the door handle request switch, or a coding/ configuration issue by not using 'Vert specific modules/ wiring.
Wish I had a easier answer...
