Test drove the IPL Vert

Was thoroughly bummed out by the rattling of the hard top, trunk and body panels over rough road. Top down this cat sounds amazing and drove great. Sweet sounding exhaust

but does anyone experience a lot of body panel shakes and rattles over rough roads?

there was no body damage or previous accidents with this car. So bummed

2013 G37 Vert IPL
39,996 miles
No mods, pure stock.

That's pretty normal, unfortunately - complicated roof mechanism, lots of moving parts, and loose fitment of various roof-related panels.
You might be able to tighten and lube a few things, but with a roof up you'll have to ignore the noises (can definitely be easier said than done).

If you are handy and willing to deal with the roof issue, when / if those happen, then it's a good year with a relatively low millage, and especially if it's a true IPL.

Yea I finally found a low mileage unicorn. Took it for a drive with the top down first and thought - damn! This is it!

then I put the top up the second half and realized - I’m so disappointed in the rattles I gave up on this dream.

car was in excellent condition but I have to find another dream to chase. Wanted the 370z roadster but it’s too small for my 6’2” frame.

leaning towards a bmw but I like the Japanese reliability over the German plastic parts.

the search continues

Seriously? I mean, follow your own values for sure, and find the car you want.

But a low-miles IPL Vert 6MT is a very special car. Walking away because of hard top noises is nuts (IMO).

The first G37 I ever drove was a 2010 Vert 6MT. And while the Coupe wasn't for me (kids), the car was freaking awesome.

@petemo94

I didn't have any rattle issues with my sunroof in the G. However, when buying the stinger, there were quite a few reports of roof rattles/noise. No double because it's a much larger panel and the whole roof sort of lifts up and back. I lucked out, my car did not have the sunroof option. One less rattle issue down the line. Of course no sunroof also meant no fancy stereo, but that's ok.

Wanting to drive in peace and quiet is not unreasonable....

Im with ya. The IPL is awesome. Loved everything about it with the top down. Fell in love with it.

The top up motoring was unacceptable bc of the noises. For a car of that price/quality, it was not better than my current 2011 G37 coupe.

believe me, I’m disappointed bc this was a dream car for me

I'm reminded how in 2007 a friend and I drove up to the Toronto Auto Show, partly because it was a cool auto show, but mostly because it was going to be my first opportunity to lay eyes on the new Camaro. I distinctly recall how psyched I was to see it from across the room, and that dreaded feeling of "uh-oh" the closer I got, because in person and up close it seemed cheap and cheesy. Then I sat in the Camaro, and it felt like I'd been kicked in the stomach. The next summer, I got to drive a 2008 SS 6MT, and while the car was stupidly powerful, I couldn't shake my overall discontent. I couldn't live with that car.

It's a bummer when car plans evaporate all at once.
