09-15 G37/Q60 Flapper Motor Gears Reverse-Engineered (updated)
Hello guys. I reverse-engineered those flapper motor gears, tested them with more than 100 cycles and now have them for sale. UPDATED: Now they made out of special material, which is way stronger than OEM plastic gears and almost as strong as metal ones. (early models were made of carbon fiber reinforced plastics)
It is a better option than metal gear because if anything go wrong and flap will meet something on its way - there is still a weak point which might break, BUT will save all other parts of this extremely expensive assembly! For reference purposes I'll post complete assemblies part numbers here: 79913-JJ50A, 79913-JJ50B
2011 and older models
Nice but, i think that you need to advise that this gear model will fit only on 2009 to 2011 models... if you don't provide the small metal gear. Supplier change the design on 2012 and later models.
I like the new material even better than the metal gears that Guy has developed. But I agree with Guy that you need to provide the toothed gear on it at the same time in order to support all of the models. In fact I would be as concerned about the longevity of this gear when inserting that metal driver. If you look at the failure mechanism it is in the attachment of the small gear to the larger driver. When a flap hits something unexpectedly there is not any torques shutoff and the gears keep trying to move. The failure point is when the motor keeps turning and the flap is stuck causes this center area to deform. I first thought Guys design was going to be noisy with metal to metal at the worm gear but it has been rock solid. I think the only way to improve would be to figure a way to belt drive this so the belt would slip and not tear the teeth out.
But, it is because we are not sure you gears have longevity but we know Guy’s do
Dranik is just trying to provide another option for Vert folks since we know Vert and top issues make them the ugly duckling of the V36 chassis.
Guy's gears are proven, Draniks gears have just started. One is metal the other is carbon reinforced printed plastic which is stronger than OEM.
Should not be a competition, I suggest for Dranik to do some additional research to see if he can come up with additional ideas that he can include with his kit to help sell.
As for issues with the flapper, I'm sure a cheap position sensor can be made to stop the top from shredding the rest, it is possible since there is no space for this Infiniti did this as an intended weak point in order not to sacrifice other expensive components.
No competition ! ONLY TWO SOLUTIONS...Both ave good and negative sides
I totaly agree with you, those plastic/carbon gears will probably do the job. And i personaly don't have the knowledge about carbon/plastic printing process to confirm that they will fail for sure somedays. The + is that they certainly cost way less to produce than the metal ones. My concern is related to heat, especially in the southern states where the temperature is very hot almost all year long. But, for sure, they are probably better than the oem cheap plastic gears!
the first drawing of dranik182 was made only for previous models but...seem's he recently design a new one for 2012 and later models..That's very good!
Now, vert owner will now have those choices to resolve a broken flipper on their vert, while avoiding the purchase of a complete linkage at hi cost from the dealer. (And they are backorder all over the country by the way!)
All thogheter, we should be angry against Infiniti (Nissan) who let those dreadful engineering design put in their car and sell them without supporting or offering a better replacement solution. I know that they didn't sold many vert as other Infiniti but, at the price we pay for those cars, i think we are equally important as others Infiniti owners....we should make a collective appeal on that!!!
that's my humble opinion! What you must remember is that, we now have our own solutions to solve our flipper problems!!!

My 2009 Vert has functioned almost flawlessly since I bought it 5 or six years ago. I live in Florida so my top goes up and down 100+ times a year. I recently noticed the flaps not operating in unison and got a little nervous. Research shows I’ll likely need gears soon. $500 for metal gears seems a little over the top when I can get similar aftermarket parts for other vehicles I own for a fraction of that. These gears are definitely in my future.
