there is no access from the trunk, you need to physically take them out. It is not as daunting as it looks, start by removing the latches that hold the trunk divider, then remove the rear trunk plastics then you can see the 3 nuts holding the lights in (8mm but has to be a deep well socket), there is 1 close to the trunk opening and 2 near the outside of the car. I find it easier to unclip the wiring harness on the hinge to gain access to the nuts. once the nuts are removed there is a pressure clip in the very corner of the lights at the outside of the vehicle, you need to just wiggle the light back and forth until it pops out, it will feel like you are going to break it but you wont. hope this helps.

Do you have any pictures? So the divider needs to completely unbolted out? Or just folded down? Also by trunk plastics, you mean the plastic clips that hold the trunk cloth? And the pressure clip is it furthest from the front or edge closest to front?

You dont need to remove the divider, just the latches where it catches into when folded up to allow the roof to open. one on each side near the very back of the car.

its super easy. remove the roof, then all the mechanisms, the motors, the controls, then remove the liners and then you will have to remove the rear bumper, then there are 20 clips that will give you access to the rear headlight support brackets, remove those and you will see the bolts that hold the tail light. remove that, and you can unplug all the wiring and be able to remove the tail light.. and its super easy to put all this back.. just do the above in reverse.

Update

I assuming the install is different for certain years of the G37 Convertible. I have a 2010, and mine was easy as unclipping the rear trunk plastics. It includes having to unclip the small trunk light by the divider and unscrewing the two latches that hold the divider. The tail light wires will be in different locations. Driver side wire is by the corner near the driver-side tail light. The passenger wire is between the trunk latch and passenger side taillights (the compartment that requires its own cover clip). Takes about 20min-40min. If anyone has more questions, i will gladly help.
