2011 G37 Vert Major Service

2011 vert, 133k miles. Rear timing cover seeping oil. Estimate for work from dealer approx $4k. 2nd opinion from another shop said the rack & pinion steering, estimate approx $2,500. Jeez! Thought about it awhile, then back to dealer to see if they would stand by their diagnosis. Yup. Sent me a pic of the seepage and an explanation of why the other shop is wrong. Oh yeah. I have to have it smogged at a Star location this year for the first time. Cool. (I live in California, so emissions standards are tighter...)

Anyway, I want to keep the car. I love it. The roof sucks up some serious dollars from time to time, but this is the 1st major expense I've had for the engine.

My question is if I go ahead and have the dealer do the work on the timing cover, what else should I have done to keep the car running well for next few years? Like I said, I want to keep it, and since I've got to sink a pile of cash into it already, I may as well spend a bit more now to avoid surprises later. I'm thinking to ask what they'd charge me to replace all of the belts and hoses and flush\refill all fluids.

Does it make sense to do that? Anything else I should have done?

Chains, tensioners, guides, water pump, hoses, belts.

Get quotes from other shops for the work.

$4k sounds insane. I'd attempt it myself Lots of YouTube videos on this.

Maybe get the parts yourself to save you money

I think conceptz sells an improved gasket

Thanks. Appreciate the info.

I'm also seeing engine stall after a warm start from time to time. Happens very occassionally - maybe 2 or 3 times within a few weeks, then not at all for months. Been reading it's an issue. Should I have throttle bodies cleaned? Not sure if it's a solution or not.

Is $4k for the gasket replacement or does that include other service work? $4k is ridiculous even from Infiniti.

Sorry. Estimate is $3,415. My bad. The estimate included some other work that's been done and I didn't subtract everything correctly.

$2,704 labor. $711 parts. Still....

$711 in parts?

What does that all include?

Don't replace the cover; just replace the gasket. Less hours and part $.
