what year to buy
what year to buy
Hey guys great site. Have been doing some research on site and learning a lot. So I am soon to be a owner of a 37 vert. I have been shopping for some time and am just about ready to go. I am looking at 2010-13. With low miles 2012 mostly for leftover warranty and a good price. My question for the pros here what would be your pick of year be and what should I watch out for. I must consider there is a 10k difference in price in these years or more. Do I need a newer car w warranty or a sweet low mileage 2010 with none. Thanks for helping the new guy.
I would get one with a good warranty. This is my 2nd vert and I have used the warranty a ton...from seat covers, to spacers that go missing on the top, and etc. My current car has the Certified Preowned Warranty good up to 120,000 miles, no deductible, I walk in hand them the keys and drive off in a loaner and tell them to fix the problem. Its why I own an Infiniti.
It actually came with the purchase of my car, with the CPO status it bumps the warranty. The reason I would do it for the convertible is after having a small fender bender in my first one, I learned how expensive it is to fix anything that goes wrong with the top. The hinges were damaged(which did get covered by insurance) and would have cost $14,000 to replace. I actually met a guy at the shop that had them replaced on his Vert under warranty...kinda solidified the need for an extended full coverage warranty on this car for me.

Phoenix75 brings up a good point. The hard top is a complex piece of hardware. I normally don't buy extended warranties with a new car. In the showroom I got the my first peek at the back with the trunk open I was shocked. Levers and hinges all over the place. So, I purchased the 3 year warranty extension just because of top. The cost of having a retractable hard top I guess.
