Unhappy Oh Lord! My first commute in Chicago snow

So last week I had my first 44 mile commute after about a 4 inch snow. Thought I would leave an hour early not knowing how my new lady would drive in the frostie white stuff. Well, leaving early mean't the plows were not out yet. Had to drive VDC off from a start, zero traction. Give a touch of the pedal, car is sideways, VDC back on!! Slid straight through red lights and stop signs, couldn't turn, and no way I was gonna try a lane change. I am a 31 year Police Sergeant and have been driving rear wheel drive Crown Vic's and Dodge Chargers in Chicago winters.....and had a ton of fun. Lets just say I sweat through two shirts, neck pain from the tension, and my hands hurt all day from the death grip I had on the wheel. Traded my 370Z for my vert, had Blizzaks and it handled like a AWD!. Thought I could survive this winter without....Up to 6 inches expected tomorrow.......*cough, cough*** The potenza's gotta go, she's a year around car for me....Whats a good tested all season staggered tire?

You're a LEO and you don't have the good sense not to try to drive in snow with summer tires? That's flat out dangerous. Never never never never drive with summer tires on snow or ice, you're risking your life, the lives of everyone else on the road with you, and opening yourself up to a serious lawsuit if god forbid you hit someone and injured/killed them.

I'm a 31 year old Police grunt (just plain officer) and the Vics are beasts in the snow. Ours weigh in (with equipment and myself) at 4,990 lbs. I'm sure you know that the second gear start in those is pretty awesome because it actually lets you start in second and not go first to second. I purchased the 2010 G37x sedan this summer and we just had 12" of snow in KC last week. As I speak, it's snowing again and they're calling for 15-20" this time......

I backed out into that stuff last time after clearing my driveway and had the snow "on". All 4 tires sunk down and I got traction and managed to plow my way through it. Just remember that awd won't compensate for our G's wonderful ground clearance. I just started searching the boards for the technicals on what exactly the "snow" button does beside the obvious provided in the user manual..... Enjoy the snow brother!

6"+ promised tomorrow night. I bet we'll probably get 1-3" at most. Skilling is usually over optimistic

Well I hope it's after noon, I'll be at Orland Park Infiniti having my new seatbelts, D rings, seatbacks and door panels put on my vert in the morning. Varjo will really be mad if I have to drive back in the snow on RT 80. And I love Tommy Skillethead

^RE050A's in winter (slight difference in the one's tested being pole position ones)

Last set of tires I used were UHPAS Yokohama AVID ENVigor for the staggered 19". They were okay in light snow. Obviously winter tires are best, but if you don't want to do two sets of tires these will be fine in light snow. However, if your G is your dd and you must drive in snow like the 4-6" I would say get winter tires.
