Roof Initialization Question!
Hey Guys,
I recently had a harness replaced in my door panel and they forgot to re-initialize the roof after they disconnected the battery... My car kept beeping twice when I turned the engine off (and wouldn't stop) and I had no idea why...
I reset the windows, still beeped.
Finally I found in the service manual that the roof had to be "initialized".
When the roof hasn't been initialized (using a Consult-III or just being fully opened and closed) it doesn't just say "Closed" on the display and do nothing when the roof was already closed like it usually does.
long story short, I accidently hit the "close" switch for the roof instead of "open" for about 1-2 seconds. I could hear the roof actually try to start the closing process and some wirring/semi-grinding and it freaked me out.
I opened the roof fully, and then closed it fully, and inspected everything to my best abilities and it seems fine... Do you guys think I should think anything of it? Could it have damaged something or diminished the lifespan of the roof hydraulics? Should I get the dealer to check it out?
I know I sound paranoid, but from all those threads it seems like if you sneeze on the roof it breaks, lol..
Thanks in advance.
Cliffs:
- Battery disconnected by dealer, didn't re-initialize roof
- Hit "close" switch while roof closed and it tried to start close sequence
- Paranoid about the 1 or 2 seconds the roof hydraulics engaged while roof is closed
- Opened and closed roof fine
- Any damage possible/should I have dealer check it?

All that being said, there is NOTHING wrong with your roof and you didn't harm anything. Hydraulics have built in limits and tolerances and the noise you heard was likely just "normal" within these tolerances. Additionally, if you press close while the roof is closed, it won't close more than fully closed.
Cliffs:
- Dealerships service department is crap - don't go there anymore.
- Your roof is fine if it is operating fine.
- Chill
- Enjoy your car!
My guess is that if the dealer so was clueless not to follow the tech notes and initialize the roof after replacing the wire harness then they are not going to do much for you unless a reproducable problem manifests itself. Additionally, I would be wary of this dealer because they didn't even check the car after their work. Didn't they hear the beeping? No need to take it to the dealer - they are inept!

Thanks so much for the reply! I know i'm OCD, but appreciate the reassurance!
