Minor Issues

Well my new Vert goes in Friday to clear up some minor issues. 3 different rattles with top up (don't have high hopes this gets completely solved, but...) and one of the speakers by the drivers door has a buzz when playing music with higher frequencies (might not be speaker, might be something in door, or trim that is loose also).

Anyway, love the car, but initial quality does not seem as high as my last Infiniti. Only really minor things, but...

Ok, let me add Navigation reboot on it's own to the list.

WTF?

Just saw the ITB in another thread for the Nav so I printed it out and am bringing it with me.

Have to revise my initial comment as i went back and read my posts relating to my 07 G35x and there were a few minor issues with that car initially as well so I guess this new one is about the same.

Just spoke with my dealership and they had my car all day today and did not finish the work and they want to keep it over the weekend (Ray Catena Infiniti in Bridgewater, NJ). I am very disappointed that a car that I have had only a week requires a shop visit for something as simple as this should be for 4 days.

In addition I was told the system did not show the Nav ITB for my car and they are not sure they can apply that either, even though I have already experienced the Nav reboot.

Hope this blows over as just an initial bump in the road with this car as I love driving it and I love the looks, but I am starting to wish I just spent the extra money on the Audi S5 Cab. At least I would have had a convertible to drive this weekend

Yes but the Audi is a TON more loaded up, has a really short roof and it's a rag top.

Sorry to hear about your problems! I just spent a few hours washing and detailing mine to take to work tomorrow. I am already planning the long (about an extra hour) way home. Hopefully once you get past the initial bump, it is smooth sailing!!

One day after I got mine in December it was pouring water on me!
A couple of minor fixes and then a new piece in June. Been very smooth sailing for the most part. The best summer in a decade to have a convertible, weather-wise.

It has been many years since I just went driving on Sunday afternoons (or any off day) for the pleasure of driving. Fun car after the initial bugs.

Have to agree with that I have over 400 miles on it in only a week. Drives in early evening are awesome.

Any driving in it is just awesome. Sorry to hear about your initial issues, but it does happen with all cars at some point. Some sooner than later. I just had my first water intrusion (little splash) 3 weeks ago after 6 months.

Got my car back and it is essentially rattle and squeak free.

They also did some sort of update to the Nav., but I did not understand what they did. They said the ITB was not coming up for my car, but they did the update anyway and the system asked for the "third" disk, so they claimed something was updated. Not sure what this will do, but hopefully will keep Nav. from rebooting, but if not they said they will replace the Nav. system.

All is good again

My car has a few "minor" issues: Excessive oil consumption, rear axle click, damaged driver door panel due to the seat belt not retracting, the '09 nav does'nt recognize 1/2 of British Columbia roads or Calgary's newer streets but I'll say this:
I just got back from a 5000 kms, 10 days trip through the Pacific North-West in which I chose the most scenic and twisty roads I could find.
The car delivered the best ride I've ever had (especially with the roof down), the most fun, the most adrenaline-charged, heart-stopping, F**k-the torpedoes-full speed-ahead handling. So yes, there are nagging problems but all in all for the fun value vs. issues found I'm way ahead of the curve. I just love this little unit, the way it hugs the road in tight corners, the way it overtakes big trucks or RVs, and, of course, the looks...It's well worth a couple of trips to the dealer.

The Audi S5 cab is a great car although a good deal more expensive than the G37vert - the A5 cab is more for that matter. I love Audi's and seriously considered one as well as the BMW 335 cab. Even the A5 cab is surpisingly quick - a beautiful car given the relatively small engine. The deal on the Infiniti was too attractive to pass up.

I've had far fewer niggles on this car than on either of my previous two Audi's or my wife's BMW (although my old BMW e36 vert seems to be blessed). For a first year model, my 2009 has been more or less worry free.

Performance and handling have been terrific and the fuel economy has improved to roughly 25 mpg on the highway cruising with roof up near 80mph. I'm very pleased so far and my wife who has an EX35 to replace her old X3 is steadily warming to her Infiniti as well. I'd seriously consider the M37x over an Audi A6 today if I were in the market.

Well I probably spoke too soon about my issues being rectified. Within a day or so, all rattles and squeaks have returned. I will be taking the car back to the dealership next week.

I agree with others in general, this is a fun car, and I love driving with the top down. I am just a little disappointed that it is not tighter given it is an Infiniti. Someone mentioned their Audi and BMW in a prior post, my experience compared to our Q5 is entirely different, that car has had no issues at all in a year and is tight as a drum. I did have an X5 that had a lot of little issues.

I loved the Q5 - my wife didn't as it felt "too-large" to her. Before she got the EX35 she also looked at Audi wagons, and the small SUVs from Acura and Lexus. Audis (and the other German luxury brands) have a very solid feel - doors "thunk" when closed - the cars also tend to feel like they are on rails. My last two Audi's were a 2000 and 2001 - I dearly loved both but they saw the shop a lot and after the manufacturer warranty required typically $1-2K per year - both still rode like new though with just a suspension refresh. Audi paid a lot of attention to quality and "problems" are definitely less today than at that time. Audi still tends to be an "early-adopter" of a lot of technology and will still sting you at times. Audi design really appeals to me - I think the A5/S5 is one of the most beautiful cars on the road - inside and out. They aren't designed to be easy to work on though.

I hope your car quiets down but I think with any vert you will have issues with body flex induced "squeaks". The A5/S5 cab may be quieter as the soft top isn't going to bang around as much when stowed - I'd guess the BMW 335 and Lexus vert will have the same bangs and taps (also have a folding metal top and essentially a trunk full of folding metal chairs). All the little folding panels flap around when you hit an expansion joint on the road. My old BMW e36 vert has almost no bangs or taps (soft top) - it squeaks from twist occasionally and road noise is much higher than the g37. My wife was concerned that my primary car (rather than recreational car) was going to be a vert - she has commented that the car is extremely comfortable with the roof up.

Wife's EX35 is very quiet with just a little wind noise from the cross-bars on the roof rails.
