Yep, the news is going around. Wish they revived the "G" model name, instead of Q50, but whatever... I'd like to see Infiniti sell a 6MT sport sedan again. Heck, I might even buy in in a few years.

Pretty cool, there’s a non-zero probability that I’d buy one if it does materialize

Seems that they are going back to the parts bin to revive the Q50. Maybe they can steal the LSD from the Z as well? Go back to a real steering rack? Maybe unify the heads up displays? Upgrade the turbos or beef up the speed sensors and monitoring?

That 9 speed Mercedes transmission from the Z and the Nismo tune would be divine. But we are getting ahead of ourselves.

Q is a handsome sedan in Red Sport trim. Hopefully they won't pull the same stunt that was used with the Z and overprice the car by 10K.

Bingo.

After getting excited about the return of the RX7 / RX9 / Rotary anything multiple times over the years, I'm not holding my breath till I see one at a dealership.

IF this happens, it will be $70,000+ for a manual sedan... not many looking for that.

Infiniti must have one of the worst naming conventions in the business out of Cadillac. They should most definitely revive the name and pair it with the VR35 from the QX80. This would probably require the Z to have a midcycle refresh so they both share the same components.

A manual G always came equipped with a LSD so I don't see it any other way. This car will share all of the latest components from the Z and it might introduce some new things for "marketing" hype.

Regarding the price of the Z there isn't much wiggle room there. The Z happens to be the cheapest in it's class. A new base Mustang GT is now 50k, where as a base model Z is closer to 40k. This is the unfortunate reality of today's market.

It won't be too far away from there. The IS500 MSRP is around 60k and a M3 is almost 80k now. I can see this undercutting the IS just slightly.

With the purchase of the new car for the wife I don't see myself buying a new car anytime in the future. I would consider a used, or "20%" off Q50 manual if Nissan gets it right with the exterior and interior styling (please say no to dual screens, or other gimmicky features).

My car retailed for $44,355 in 2013 ($61,620 in today’s dollars), which placed the top-spec G37 at only about $3-4K cheaper than the base Audi S4. But back then, it wasn’t hard to negotiate a pretty steep discount on G37 6mt models (many were sitting on lots). This is where the G37 value prop shined relative to Euro counterparts for many buyers.

For this new model, I’m expecting a price tag in the $60-65k range fully equipped. Any higher and it’d be too close to Euro competition. And these days sales prices are too close MSRP.

FTR not counting on Nissan to pull this off, with the systemic mismanagement, poor financial performance, etc. But wouldn’t mind being pleasantly surprised

The 9AT is a shoe-in for the automatic models. They're moving every one of their platforms over to it. I'd love to see slightly larger turbos, a revised VR30, and 450hp for the tune.

The VR35 would be nice, but I don't see them adding it with the Air-to-Air intercooler setup that the QX80 has for packaging reasons. VR30 or slightly revised VR30 I think is the more likely candidate.

We can thank Johan de Nysschen for upending Infiniti's storied model brand names in favor of the Q/QX naming conventions. He came to Cadillac after Infiniti and pretty much ran the same playbook there.

I think we'll see an LSD with the manual Q50, but would love to see it return across the board for the higher trim levels.

We'll see a Nissan Z with extra doors and seats, and I doubt other than sheetmetal and maybe small tuning there will be much mechanical differences (like with our cars, and the G35s, et etc)

Which is to say... I'm listening.

I don't see a 450HP sedan since their flagship performance car (Nismo Z) is only rated at 420HP (91 octane, but with racing gas it dynos higher, stock). The Nismo also has more sensing and cooling to maintain longevity of the turbos (more than the Redsport), so it's possible that they would carry these safeguards over to the new model.

The Nismo is a Tale of Two Cities when it comes to reviews as many like Matt Farah (Smoking Tire) love it and see the Nismo as an entirely different car compared to the Z performance (analysts hate the pedestrian handling), but many other reviewers (mostly Europeans) see it as a complete head fake that cannot be compared to the M2 Performance and outgoing BMW (I mean Toyota) Supra. I believe many have this opinion based on the suggested resale price in the mid 60s. Now that these are selling in the mid 50s, analysts see the value as they fit into a market segment now with little to no competition. Still waiting to see one in the wild. Maybe I need to move to a small town?

Hopefully Nissan will talk this into consideration with the new Q50 6MT. At this point, the Nismo will also have a manual as that hurts the car today, despite the automatic being the faster of the two on the standard Z.

Damn. Despite the financial woes and potential bankruptcy, the Nissan marketing machine appears to be fixed and leveraging the part of their brand built around a racing heritage and usable value based performance leveraging tried and proven components: https://www.motortrend.com/news/us-b...nissan-z-nismo

It's like someone on their team woke from a deep slumber.

Hi Rob, slightly off topic, any thoughts on the post I created here within a prior thread you created: https://www.myg37.com/forums/g37-sed...-on-sedan.html
