2010-11 Infiniti gets ready for Twin Turbo

Found this little tasty tidbit up on the web.

Infiniti gets ready for direct-injection, Essence design and drivetrain to influence lineup

Buzz up!Filed under: Industry News, Infiniti

The new 3.7L direct-injection twin-turbo V6 that was shown in the Infiniti Essence concept is scheduled to make its debut in the redesigned M sedan that is due in early 2010. According to CARandDRIVER, the engine will most likely find its way into the G37 coupe and sedan.

The 3.7L direct-injection twin-turbo V6 is good for producing about 340 to 350-hp while increasing fuel-efficiency.

What happened to the Q and are we ever going to see one on the road again? Sources say that Infiniti’s U.S. division is eagerly looking for a $70,000 - $80,000 car to justify its luxury-performance stance against Lexus. A group of dealers recently visited Japan and were shown a four-door version Essence concept car that could hint at the future Q.

my guess they are going for "increased fuel" like it says, im sure you can tweak it just like any other setup.

Would 08 and 09 G drivers be able to get this on the cars by paying the dealership some money or is it a completely new engine?

Thanks.

More then likely, it won't be have turbos but be Direct Injection which is why horsepower will only increase by 10-20 while having much better fuel economy.

"The Infiniti Essence concept is powered by a 3.7L V6 gasoline engine mated to a electric-hybrid system that runs on lithium-ion batteries. That helps the rear-wheel-drive hybrid coupe produce a total of 600-hp."

dont know if its the same engine or not.

These post just keep popping up everywhere. I believe the essence is the only car with tt direct injection.

Other then that the M's and G's are going to have sans turbo direct injection.

Doesnt sans turbo mean no turbo?

All i would want the G's to have is add 10-20 HP, and go on a two year diet. If not then they need TT's

What we currently have in most cars right now is called port injection...fuel is sprayed to mix in with the incoming air before it enters the engine, usually around the intake manifold, and the air/fuel mixture is compressed to a certain point before combustion.

Direct injection is an improvement because it is sort of a step between normal petro combustion engines and diesel where it's just air that goes into the engine, then the fuel is directly injected into the mixture sometime during the compression phase, allowing it to have a more lean burn, and it also helps with emissions by relocating the air/fuel in a blanket of just air away from the cylinder walls.

To put it in easy terms

As far as power and fuel efficiency:

Direct Injection>Port Fuel Injection>Carburettors
Future > Present > Past

Hope that helps!

"From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In internal combustion engines, gasoline direct injection is a latest variant of fuel injection employed in modern two- and four- stroke petrol engines. The petrol/gasoline is highly pressurised, and injected via a common rail fuel line directly into the combustion chamber of each cylinder, as opposed to conventional multi-point fuel injection that happens in the intake tract, or cylinder port.

In some applications, gasoline direct injection enables a stratified fuel charge (ultra lean burn) combustion for improved fuel efficiency, and reduced emission levels at low load."

350 hp but also prob 350 tq w/ the tt setup . . .

There is no possible way without major heads, parts and electronics replacement\investment. Plus those parts aren't going to be available for a long time if ever.
If you really had to have it you better just trade when they arrive!

i honestly hope we dont get the twin turbo motors... i drove the 2.0T Audi A4 to compare it and it just sucks going in and out of turbo to jerk the car in NYC traffic. I don't want any more complaints from clients (like there isn't enough already)
