New M37
New M37
Apparently, Infiniti is seriously working on a new M37 sedan.
A few weeks ago I was invited to participate in a market research study (because I used to own an Acura TL). I thought it was an Acura study to concept test the new TL or RL. When I got to the market research location today (Valley Forge, PA, near Philadelphia) there were two M37's there, along with a Mercedes E350, BMW 528, and Lexus GS350 for comparison (as well as a current
M35). It was a 3 hour concept test in a large hall, they had participants sit in and check out all the cars and compare them to each other.
To my eyes, the M37 was absolutely stunning. It bears no resemblance to the current M35. It caught my eye immediately on walking into the room. It is radically curvaceous, with a side profile reminiscent of an old Jaguar XK140, with front fenders that swoop upward, and rear fenders that swoop upward even more dramatically. It was a riveting combination of curves and creases (on top of the fenders), much more interesting than the typical slab-sided 4-door sedan. All of the other cars there for comparison looked totally boring next to the M37. The only less than totally perfect line on the car (to my eyes) was that the trunk segment seemed a little short, the car would look even better if the trunk were 6 inches longer, it looked a little clipped.
The interior was just as dramatic, truly beathtaking. The same design themes combining curves and sharp edges were carried over onn the doors and dashboard. the surfaces were a dramatic yet classy combination of polished metal, wood, and leather, with a futuristic/retro look, sort of like Flash Gordon's spaceship. The instrument panel had a more futuristic rendition of Infiniti's indigo lighting with white and chrome.
The mechanical specifications seemed lifted from the current G37 - 3.7 liter engine tuned to 327 hp, traction control, stability assist, and a whole host of electronic aids seen on the current FX50 - lane change assist/control, etc.
There were many survey questions on price points, but overall, it seemed like they were converging on a target price of $45,500.
I personally have never been very big on 4-door sedans, but this is one I would seriously consider - it looks like a 4-door version of the G37 Coupe, but with a much more dramatic interior. It almost seems too dramatic for a production car, the agressive interior and exterior seem much more like a concept or show car. I had not seen any mention of a new M37 in any of the car magazines or blogs, I don't know how far from production it is. They had two there - one with the windows blacked out but the exterior looked production ready, and the other with what looked like a production ready interior but the body disguised with plastic panels.
Overall, a truly strikingly beautiful car that I (a current G37 Coupe owner) would seriously consider - especially if it were available with a manual transmission, but there was nothing in any of the specs to suggest it would be, and since it seems like the intended replacement for the M35, it's likely to be automatic only.

i dnt understand everything is 37 except the freakin new fx what is wrong with them, just like the g35 sedan (07) they just should have made that the freaking 37!! i dk people should think a little more.. 35 shouldnt exist in 08
They were very strict about photos. They actually had a security guard frisk every participant, and they held any cameras, cell phones, and blackberrys outside of the viewing area. Each display area also had a couple of security guards milling around the cars to make sure no one snuck anything through.
I would have loved to have taken some shots!

I dunno it looks more like an M but maybe they've remodeled the G37 Sedan instead of just adding the 3.7.. OP made it seem like it was a completely different look/style. Funny how they dressed that car up, removed the tire caps and everything.
No, the autospies shot is definitely not the M37 I saw this week. I honestly have not seen another sedan like the M37. The closest thing might be the current Maserati Quatroporte.
I hope they manufacture it just as it is, with its dramatic styling, and not water it down like what happens with most cars with agressive styling.

P.S. Where is the color pic at? Use MS Paint and do your best!
