Am i being screwed? (paint/bodywork situation)

Well as some of you have seen i put the kuruma front on and have been trying to get to samuels to get it painted. Well i finally got in yesterday, we start talking and i ask him if he can do the fender in the process of painting (will be better since paint will be blended into fender) So long story short i get a price close to 1300 . I was thinking before i went in.....max 450 to paint bumper and fix/paint my fender another 400. So i go there and get an estimate of 500 more than i expected and from what i've seen ppl charge. Since i know samuels does quality work i didnt get mad at the fact that it seemed i was being raped and went to another shop, they told me 1375. I dont quite understand wtf is going on....

Am i assuming wrong or is what i was expecting to pay about right? Know any places other than samuels for where to go to get my work done?? thanks

I don't know about body shops out there but I got painted 1000 to paint my whole front end over (hood, bumper and fenders) I had originally wanted to do just my hood because of the small stone chips.

Jose,
but that includes the body work to fix the fender, right??!!

400 seems low to fix/paint the fender.

I would have thought about $500-600 for prep/paint (depending on how much prep is needed) for front bumper and $600-700 for fender repair/paint....

u could get it done cheaper but u normally get what u pay for

the front bumper is near perfect. so why would it be $500-600 to paint/prep? it might need an hour if that.

fender yea needs work but $700 on just the fender???? for that price i can buy a new one and paint it couldnt i?

did u ask for the breakdown on how he got to $1300?

paint alone i would say $500 (maybe $600 through Samuels) for both bumper and fender....

so it seems he has 10+hrs of "body" work planned for everything...

Chuck and I are having some work done by Richard at All Fleet. I'm spending a lot less than that for my paint work. I know Samuels does good work, but they charge for it too.

Richard is definately the cheapest....but IMO sup-par work+horrible customer service so his only option is being cheap.

He specializes in rental cars and therefore quality doesnt really matter....he cares about turnaround time ALOT more

Hey Jose this is the break down.......

It depends on if the bumper is Poly or not it seems to me a lot of body shops dont like to paint aftermarket poly bc of the poore quality Poly and the abundance of silicone. For the NISMO i got it painted for 580 thats for 1 hour to fit the bumper and about 4 to prep and paint the bumper. Every bumper need a little prep before you paint it. Even my NISMO which i though was going to be perfect when i took it to him he showed me some spots i didnt even notice and he said that would have to work on it a little.

I was charged 580 for fitting the bumper , prep and paint its a little expensive but he does really good work.

The 1300 price seems like it is for the fenders and the bumper painted bc i asked him about the same thing and he quoted me about 1200. If i remeber correctly. This is because he has to take off your fenders sand them down and blend them. Its not cheap.

I think Poly is a little more expensive to paint bc of the silicon issues they have to make sure it is all out of the bumper and the only way to do that is to bake it out. If they dont do that then the paint will only last 6 months or so from what i hear.

I paid a total 780 for my bumper and my mirrors to get painted. It seemed about right to me at the time.

hope everything works out okay. Not saying your bumper is bad quality im just going off my personal exp. From what i heard the Kruma Z are the some of the best Poly aftermarket bumpers out there.

Sorry wes just informed me that your fender was F'ed Yeah thats a good a$$ deal then IMHO. To fix yor fender paint it blend it and piant the bumper for 1300.

I wouldnt take a IP car to Richard Im sorry but IP is the hardest color to match on our cars. like Wes said he deals in rentals and does sub par work. On a red or black car its just that red or black the you cant screw that up but on DG,IP, BS, DP you can get way different results and make it look like its 10 different colors. Quality pays IMHO.

at least 5 members have had bad experience at All-Fleet and Josh had his kit repainted about 4-5times to get the IP to match which in the end it was "close-enough"
