Looking to buy - Tampa area - help?

Hey all. This is my first post, so if I sound ignorrant or I am posting in the wrong place, I hope you will forgive me...

That being said. I am looking to move from a BMW to a G. I curently am leasing a 325i with an AUTO. I have no idea why I got an auto. The 4 door is because when I wanted to buy, they were offering huge incentives on sedans that were not being offered on coupes (I had a trade issue then too that I had to get around). Thought I would be happy. But I am not. The car has 9,000 miles on it and is perfect. BUT, when I leased it, I traded in a fulle size Chevy pickup and that was right about the time gas prices started going up and GM was starting to offer employee pricing, so I was slightly negative in that vehicle on the trade.

I want a G35 coupe 6MT in white, Red or maybe silver. Premium, Aero and that's about it. I have sent a couple of internet quotes to 2 local dealers, Lokey and Courtesy on the 30th. Lokey came back with an offer about 1900 above invoice and 500 below kbb trade value for my car. They pretty much told me they think I can do better at another dealership...I have not heard back from Courtesy yet at all.

Does anybody around here have any advice? I was hoping to be about $2-3k better than that deal at Lokey. I've heard folks saying they are getting Invoice deals or slightly above. I know my trade is a huge negative for me in this (since my payoff is about 2500 higher than kbb tradde value), but was hoping for at least kbb trade value or better. If I cant get a better deal by about $2k, I will wait another year and evaluate the situation again, but my BMW, while nice, is just soooo boring...

Any advice. Thanks...

Most people here will recommend Lokey. They are our biggest sponsor of the Florida G35 Club. I don't know if it still exists, but if you are an FGC member, you are guaranteed $1000 over invoice on a G35 coupe.

I bought from Infiniti of Tampa a couple years ago and they gave me a good deal but everyone says Lockey is the best bet. You should join FGC, they will give you a better deal, or so I hear.

Thanks for the replies so far.

After reading up on this site, Jason and Lokey was the first dealer that I submitted a quote to. He actually came in at $1600 over invoice, and $500 under KBB trade in value on my car. But the numbers were about $1500-$2000 away from waht I was hoping to get.

I just received another quote (from another dealer) for $1000 over invoice on a DG car with Premium and RAS (no Aero but will add rear spoiler for no charge). They tinted the windows and added wheel locks that they are not asking additional for so price is $35,900. But he has not gotten back to me yet on a value for my trade. I like the price on that one, but if he lowballs me on the trade, it wont work...

w0ady - Nice ride. But unfortunately that would not solve the problem with my BMW...

Just curious... e46 or e90? I would never be happy with a 325 of any generation, coupe or sedan... I feel ya.

I'm sure that if you go up to Lokey as an FGC member, they will try to beat the offer you got. There are more than 10 FGC members who bought their Gs from Lokey, myself included, and had nothing short of a fantastic experience with them. I for one wouldn't buy an Infiniti from any other dealer. Talk to John Oliva at Lokey and see what he can do, he's the man...

Thanks guys. No, if I get one I am not planning on lowering it, but RAS doesnt really interest me too much one way or the other as this will not be a track car. My car is an e46. I don't like the E90's at all...although the new e92 coupe looks promising.

Lokey called me back and they have come down on the difference in the net trade a good bit ($2k or so). I am going to go up there today to see if we cant work something out. The guy who called me is Bill Perento. But will see if I cant see John or Marc while I am there.

It still probably wont happen unless they can work magic with the numbers, but if it does...I'll be joining. Thing is, I'm probably older than most of you guys (pushing 40)...

Anyway, I'll keep you posted. Thanks

I'll just say I had a pretty terrible experience at Tampa infiniti - Lokey is awesome, and we have some good people there.

White is also a sick color, almost chose it over the blue.

Every one of us has said the same thing at one time or another.

The FGC needs more mature members. Trust me there are many menbers older than you.

Well, Lokey was not able to help me. My trade just does not seem to be worth much. I mean its a 2005 with 8,900 miles and the sticker on it was almost $37k and all the are offering on trade is $26k? Its not just Lokey, the other dealers are all in the same ballpark. Damn this BMW depreciates much worse than an GM car...

Anyway, if I get a chance tomorrow I'll go to Carmax and at least get my car appraised (and maybe entertain the idea of buying a used 2005 from them). If I could just get $28k trade on it I would have been pretty much set on getting a new one. I see them all the time (2005's) on BMW and other lots priced at $31.5k or so...

If it does not work out though, I will probably troll around on the site here. I will get one eventually, even if its 12-18 months from now...

Go to edmunds.com and get the True Market Value of your car. I went and appraised it quickly, for an '05 auto with 8900 miles, sport, xenons, H/K, power/leather seats, outstanding condition, it came up with $27.3K tradein/$29.2K private party/$31.2K retail. Now, those values are overstated - almost a year ago I could not get the private party value it showed for my G35.. supposedly the car with the best resale value out there. It's the harsh reality, but every car depreciates. I'm sure you also paid a lot less than 37K for your 325i, and being that it's a 2 year-old model already I'd be surprised if you've lost more than 3K per year - which is absolutely normal.

I'm sure this doesn't help you any, but check out http://www.carbuyingtips.com.. lots of useful info. Carmax will offer you wholesale and you can use that in your negotiations. If I were you though, I'd take an '05 right now over an '06 in 12 months.. money spent on a car you're not enjoying is money thrown out the window.

Thanks Finiti35 - Yeah I had done the edmunds/kbb thing and came up with slightly less than you because I dont have sport package but do have premium package. Do you or does anybody have any experience buying a car from Carmax? I am with you (finiti35) on the idea that I should not keep paying money on a car that i really don't care for much. I have thought about buying an 05 with low miles and i was wondering if Carmax is a bad place at which to consider doing that...I was going to go there and get my car appraised and at the same time do the locator thing on a G35 coupe 6MT. I know there is one in Miami (at least on the webisite) equipped pretty much like i want for $31+change.

I know they say no haggle price, but is that for real or will they budge on their car or my car to make a deal. I also have a 2002 Civic that I was going to get rid of too and use the proceeds to put down on my next car purchase...but not on a lease...

Again, I wouln't mind selling my Honda outright, but dont want to deal with selling my BMW to a private party with a lease companay and his/her bank all involved...
