MXP Double Resonated Test Pipes vs FI RHFC

I recently (today) installed the MXP Double Resonated Test Pipes

Before that, I had the FI RHFC, but unfortunately they broke

Now for the comparison.

FI RHFC:

I had the FI RHFC for about 10k miles. The sound is very OEM like, ride is great, minimum to no rasp (paired with ARK catback) and minimum drone. It could be louder and I wished it was louder at WOT.

MXP Double Resonated Test Pipes:

Initial thoughts were that it is a lot more drony :/
Thankfully, the drone is only there when you are on high gear on highway.
On WOT, the drone is minimum and sounds pretty good.

In summary, the loudness of the MXP is very good. The sound is a bit more exotic compared to the FI RHFC which sounds deeper. Some of the drone makes me a bit unsure on how I like it. Only have driven it for about 20 miles on highway traffic, but I'm ok with it for now.

I would recommend the MXP pipes for someone who likes to be at WOT a lot and doesn't mind the drone.
The FI RHFC are for those who enjoy the G's luxury over its performance.

Give it a 1000 miles to break in. The drone might be close to gone. I guess it comes down to if you can live with it.

I really hope so, because the sound is pretty good.

Get them checked before something happens. Probably the weld was a bit weak and a hard pull caused it to break.

For the 10K miles with the RHFC did you have any issues? Smell? and how did it break? Because I just ordered it and now I'm a little skeptical about it.

Are those resonators or catalyst containers? Does PR require clean exhaust?

Probably the weld was a bit weak and a hard pull caused it to break. Just get some extra hangers close to the FI RHFC to support the weight.

Yes, but it is not enforced.

The MXP has two resonators. The FI RHFC has a resonator and a catalytic converter.

MXP RTP tested

I have driven on the MXP Resonated Test Pipes for about 250 miles.

My initial thoughts was that it was a bit drony while granny driving on D and DS and you really have to play with the throttle to avoid drone. However, I have gotten used to it and can keep the drone to a minimum. What I love about this exhaust is the sound while revving up to 3500rpm all the way to redline in "manual" mode. The sound is amazingly addicting, beautiful, exotic and really shows how powerful this car really is.

The FI RHFC has a very mellow and deep sound with absolutely no rasp and nonexistent drone to the untrained ear. It is the perfect sound for daily driving and just cruising on low RPMs. On WOT it's great, but I wished that it was a bit louder. Sometimes it makes you forget how powerful this car really is. (I have it paired with the ARK catback, which is relatively quiet)

In conclusion, the MXP RTP are great for spirited driving, while the FI RHFC are the best choice for daily driving. Of course, these are two different products and I'm basically comparing a RHFC to a RTP, although the MXP has two resonators.

As of today, I'm still not sure which one I like best. Sometimes while cruising, I wish I had the FI RHFC for granny driving. (Note that I always drive around with no music on)

But the more I get used to the MXP, the more I love them. They provoke me to drive hard just so I can hear that beautiful sound.

I have a video with some sound clips, but I have to edit some segments to stay within forum rules.

Good info. I wouldn't go anywhere near these things, but that's OK. It's good to know what NOT to do.

Happy miles to you!
