Hey everyone, so I installed my Z1 transmission mount yesterday. Fairly quick and easy deal, however I have some concerns. So when I place the Z1 mount next to the stock one, there is a height difference in the mounting position, roughly about half an inch difference. Adding a picture of it so you all can see. Basically adding the Z1 mount as it was shipped from Z1 to me raised the angle of the transmission slightly. What I've noticed now is that the car makes a noise that I would compare to driving on a loose gravel road, and becomes louder as the speed increases. Wondering if anyone else has compared the mounts side by side and notice this height difference. I'm going to remove it and lower the Z1's height as it's supposedly adjustable, and see if that corrects the noise issue, but not sure if that is norm for the z1 mount. I haven't had a chance to drive it at highway speeds to see how loud it's capable it getting, but at 50mph it was drastically louder, and even when coasting off the throttle.
Thanks for the reply. I was expecting some nvh, but this is more than a little. I feel like this noise is louder than my catback. I'll be at 50mph and put it in neutral, and I've got this crazy loud noise like a truck with mud tires. Something else to throw into the equation is that I already had this noise but at a quarter the volume. My theory is that my driveshaft is not lined up correctly. I started experiencing a noise when I got my 1piece CF driveshaft installed along with differential bushings and Z1 subframe collars. Between those items I'm not sure what caused it, but now with this trans mount it's gotten crazy loud. I wanted to lower the Z1 trans mount position to see if there was a difference, but I can't even get any instructions on how that is done. I emailed Z1 about it several days ago but no response. Not sure if anyone here knows how to adjust the Z1 trans mount height?
Make sure the face of the transmission tip is parallel to the face of the differential flange. You can adjust the height of the transmission mount until it roughly matches, using an angle finder.
To adjust the height, loosen the hex bolt in the middle and also the top hat bolt so that the bushing is not pressed down and set the height and tighten
Thanks for help on how to adjust the mount height. I have yet to check the angles or adjust the height, but took the car to get that loud noise checked, and turned out to be the front right wheel bearing. After replacing it now the car is so much smoother and quieter. Crazy how the trans mount was amplifying the bearing noise so drastically. I'm still convinced that the height of the mount should be lowered, but for now since things are feeling better I'm going to hold off till I have some time off to take the mount off and adjust.
A higher stance will raise the trans tail a bit and change the u joint angle. Though this might or might not contribute to the NVH lowering the mount should yield a better feel.
I wonder anyone who's installed these ever messed with their adjustment.
