Short throw shifter options for 2020

Been looking into STS and TWM is no longer produced. Local Nissan specialist would order these at CZP price and do the install... though they said they prefer the stock shifter.

Stillen - Mixed reviews. Seems to be issues with the 2 piece design, $280
Hurst - Can't find any reviews, $307
B&M - Mixed reviews. Some love it, while it broke on others, $264
Torque Solutions - All good reviews from Amazon. Comes with ball bearing instead of polymer, $211 (cheaper elsewhere, but shop won't warranty work on carry in parts)

Any opinions? Seems like some people have rattling issues at high rpm no matter which product. For my car, all the press articles about IPL's say "short throw shifter" for 6MT's, but I'm pretty sure it's the same as the other cars.

Not including Coolerworx due to non-OEM functionality.

No worries man.
Id definitely go with the TS over the others. For starters I've read multiple reports of BM snapping

The TS shifter looks like a nearly identical design to the TWM. And I absolutely love my TWM STS.

Here's my thread on the STS from years ago: https://www.myg37.com/forums/drivetr...ion-mount.html

And here are two pics for comparison:

It seems that Coolerworx is the king of all short shifters and the guys who have it on their car rave how short and crisp it is. I don't like the notchy feel and recently bought the short shifter offered by Z Speed at $99.

Joe says its pretty much a Buddy Club shifter. I like it since it is built like the oem shifter.

I’m really tempted to grab that Zspeed one for the price, but haven’t found much info on it.

The coolerworx assembly is on my list as well and the price tag doesn’t bother me because I understand what I’m getting.

I'm going ahead with the Torque Solutions. I mentioned Coolerworx in the OP. It's very different from OEM and I think would be more geared toward a sports car than a luxury one.

Just to keep with the theme of current short shifters in 2020, Milan’s new video on the coolerworx unit should be helpful.

I was in the same boat and undecided on short shifters but after reading so many positive reviews, I paid up and ordered the Coolerworx shot shifter for my 13' coupe. I just got in the mail a few days ago and it should be getting installed in January sometime. I'll be sure to share pictures and my feedback.

A note to those considering purchasing the Coolerworx shifter: they have a few finish options, and I went with "graphite" assuming it would be like any other dark gray/graphite, but it has a very noticeable blue tint to it. Some might like it but it is not a true graphite- more of a blue slate and graphite mix. There's a picture in the link in my post to my build thread of it, and I'll try to upload a better pic shortly to show the finish. Other than the color being off, this thing looks and feels amazing - quality is superb.

Are you avoiding the Coolerworx shifter just due to the taller height and/or non-oem shift **** compatibility?

Just looks out of place, imo.

I just installed the TS shifter, but kept the stock **** for now. Got it off with no damage using a rubber strap wrench. Shifts while driving feel great, though it takes a lot more effort to throw. I'm thinking I need to look into a weighted ****... The mechanic encountered an issue with a large metal spacer ring that was preventing shifting into reverse, so he ended up taking it out since it was getting late. Now when I need to go in reverse, there's a bit of a jarring clunk upwards if I push the spring all the way down and throw to the right. If I apply less pressure where the spring isn't fully compressed it will shift smoothly into reverse.

Does anyone have any idea what this part is or what could've gone wrong? I didn't see it in any diagrams. Still feeling mixed about the end result.

Okay yeah I’ll have to go back and see if we can find what the issue was. It wasn’t communicated well but I should’ve kept checking on them. These guys worked on tons of Z’s so I was hoping this would’ve gone smoother.

Edit: Nvm, I watched a video and the spacer just sits at the bottom of the metal base.

Well the shop's going to charge me if they have to take it apart for the 3rd time. It was installed according to instructions and they said they knew the spacer was the issue when it wasn't going into reverse... They agreed it didn't make sense, but attributed it some sort of manufacturing defect.

It does take more pressure than before to push the shifter down all the way. I know where the vertical shift point is for reverse, and requires the normal pressure I would usually apply, so it doesn't bother me too much when driving. I guess my experience just leaves a bad taste.

Update: Noticeable rattle when over 4k rpm while in 4th gear or lower. Possibly the ball bearing spinning. Noticeable, but not too bad with the stock ****. I'll have to see what happens if I use a metal ****.
