2013 7at issues

I have tried to do tons of forum browsing before making a post but i cannot find much information regarding 2013 model years so here we go.

I have a 2013 G37S with 60k miles. No modifications. Ive read lots about the 7at being a strange beast of a transmission but certainly this cant be right. The best way to describe it is herky jerky. This transmission jerks through every gear not just 3-4 4-5. And when i say jerk i dont mean "clunks" or "bangs", its just not smooth at all in terms of how much it moves my head back and forth. 3-4 and 4-5 flare alot and every other gear is just jerky all the way up to 7. Downshifting is mostly fine, i can feel it but its not really noticeble to passengers. Paddle shifting is just as awful as letting the auto do its thing.

Ive read plenty of people who say their transmission is very smooth and i cant imagine this is normal.

The reason im here is because my g37 is a 2013 model which is built after all the TSBs i see everyone talking about that fix (or dampen) these issues so im not sure where to go from here to try and smooth it out. Any help or information regarding 2013 year models would be greatly appreciated!!

Thank you for reading

Edit: few things i thought might help diagnose.

Shifts are smoother under heavy throttle, normal driving is where it is jerky.
I have tried resetting the ecu.
No codes on bluetooth scanner.
Local dealer thinks its a CVT and the next closest dealer is a ways away hence why i havent brought it in yet.
Hope some of that info helps diagnose

MY car did that when I first bought it - I flushed my transmission fluid and never had that issue again.
(Not a mechanic but speaking from experience)

Did you have it machine flushed or just a drain and refill? My local dealer said they wont do a flush only a drain and refill and im not so confident that would do enough.

Specifically not recommended to power flush the 7AT. Drain and fill, repeat twice more.

Do dealers do 3x?
I'm fine with that method, I just cant afford to pay someone to do it 3 times. I live in an apartment and dont exactly have access to a workspace/tools to try it myself unfortunately.

Shop around, go to a couple different shops and see how much it would cost. Myself, I’d try going to get your own fluid, But some shops don’t like when you do that. I don’t have any specs on fluid quantities, but you would be looking to get the Nissan S-Matic trans oil. I’d highly recommend sticking with what Nissan recommends.

600 is normal.

9 qt.s required (just had mine done last week). Paid 23X.xx for the service at an Indy shop.

Honestly, the behavior you're describing sounds par for the course when it comes to the 7AT. Shifts smooth and aggressively at WOT or when aggressively driving but stumbles on the 3-4, 4-5 shifts when driving it normally. I read it has something to do with the lock in the converter or something so the action is normal and it's why the jerky nature can never be completely nullified.

New fluid will definitely help with the harshness of the locking of the converter after those gears but you're never going to get rid of it completely.

Before doing anything else other than a fluid change, clean the MAF sensors and throttle bodies (do the re-learn procedures!!!). That's usually a culprit that is occasionally overlooked.

I definitely will be trying to get the fluid changed and hope that helps. The thing is, its not just 3-4 and 4-5. All of the gears are jerky, those 2 are just the only ones that flare. Ive never driven a car that jerks you around between shifts like this.

Ill have to give the maf and throttle bodies a clean but i dont really know how that would effect how the transmission shifts ( not really mechanically inclinded, i just like cars haha )

I dont expect to find a perfect cure all for it ,as you and many others said, its a goofy transmission; but certainly smoothing it out even a bit would make me feel better about the purchase.

Also reading about other peoples experience with the TSBs on the pre 2013 models and hearing how much it helped there's lead me to believe that it shouldnt be this bad.
Thanks for your input!!

Drain and fill is enough just make sure whoever you have do it does it while car is level

I drive the car hard, not going to lie, but it should be able to handle hard driving these cars are built like tanks and the previous owner probably never let the engine rev over 3k for its first 60k miles.

anyways, I’m still experiencing harsh shifts, sometimes it even makes a knocking noise when I shift which can’t be right, sounds like a slightly worse version of your problem. Try going on a steeper incline if possible like I did and leaving the car in drive and letting off the brake and gas, just let it idle until it starts to roll back and see if it does what mine does. I’m wondering if we have the same problem.
Ive not noticed any issues like that on incline but that certainly doesnt sound good. Hopefully whatever that is isnt too bad to fix. I drive pretty light footed most of the time with occasional spirited driving. Below 10% throttle and above 75% throttle it shifts smoother, anywhere in the middle, which i would consider to be the "normal driving", is just awful. Id almost call it dangerous like when driving around town and it lurches into the next gear with cars in front of me and wants to surge forward for no reason. Id love to find an example to test drive and see if they all are this bad or not. I cant imagine with how many of these cars are on the road owned by non car people or in youtube reviews that they wouldnt comment on how poorly they shift if they all were as rough as i feel mine is.

Have you had any of the TSBs applied? Many people report they work wonders.
