Foreign object sucked into engine head

Hi all,

New member here from Las Vegas.

Did an intake replacement on my 08 G37 recently.
Everything seemed to be ok until yesterday. I turned the car on and got a loud rattle.

The rattle does not increase with engine speed. Just sounds like something bouncing around. I only hear it on the passenger side.

Im starting to think some kind of metal made its way into the head.

Would my car even be running if thats true?

What kind of intake did you install? Also if an object made it into the intake, past the the throttle bodies, through both intake manifolds, and through the intake valves you would have known it. It wouldn’t be “something” bouncing around more like a metal on metal chewing/grinding sound.

If you're down on power, you sucked a screw or bolt into a cylinder. If not, check the intake brackets, the windshield washer reservoir cap (really), look for part of the intake making contact with something else.

I was worried it made it into the camshaft area, no necessarily into a cylinder.

Regardless I was able to pin point where the rattling was coming from. It sounds like its the power steering pump. It went out a few weeks ago but recetly started making extra noises(rattling), havent had good luck with getting the right one for my car as it is a G37 Sport model which carries a different pump. I ordered from ebay a few times and they always send the wrong one. Anyways, Im glad it wasnt anything worse. I need to get this pump replaced asap.

Thanks for the input guys!!
