Turbo install

Turbo install
I purchased a 2011 g37 sedan sport. A shop in NC said they could do a turbo install and new clutch for $14,000. They specialize in Nissan/infin. The car has 76,000 miles. Has anyone had a professional shop do a turbo upgrade? did it affect the drivability? Have there been problems? I would like to add some power, but don't want to have issue or it be unreliable. Any feedback would be great.

If it were me, I'd run a spoon engine, t66 turbo with NOS and a Motec system exhaust to take full advantage of the set-up.
In all seriousness, OP, if you run boost keep it low and you should be fine. Shop I inquired with recommended keeping whp under 410 for stock internals. Based on his experience with the 3.5s he had worked on, you should retain reliability this way. Personally, I'd look into an aftermarket oil cooler as well and be sure to do a compression test and send a sample of oil to blackstone labs for an engine health analysis.

By all means go for it if +-150HP is worth 14k to you on a 7yr old car, worth around the same. Honestly I'm not sure how serious you are about the upgrade. Your dialogue suggests that you recently purchased your car and/or new to modifying it.
By all means go all in, if that's what you what you want to do. It just depends on how much power you're trying to make in the end. If you're looking for over 350HP, a turbo/sc setup will be needed. If you're sitting stock though; 3in intakes, full exhaust, HFC/TP, and a good tune will probably net you 30-50 HP for 3k or so and will make a considerable improvement in the 'drivability', reliability, and overall pride in your purchase.
If you're just looking for a speed boost on occasions, maybe look into nitrous. I've read the VQ takes pretty well to it, but there's not a lot of people who do it (or post about it at least). I imagine a kit + tune would be $2500 or less out the door at a good shop that does it all for you.
Just do what makes you happy and you think is worth it. I personally wouldn't put 14k in performance upgrades on my G. I'd buy an actual sports car, or trade the G + Cash for something nicer and newer. Don't get me wrong, I love my G sedan, it's just not best the platform to push performance on unless your upgrade budget is pretty (14k) deep.

^^^^ exactly. 14K? shouldve just added that on top of what you paid for your car and gotten something with a turbo or whatever power youre looking for.

To the OP, the motor check first , compression check, if all checks out and you have an additional 10K laying around for when something breaks, cause something will, then you for it.
Also not sure why you didnt just buy a used 3.0T Q50 with spending that kinda $ on top of what the G37 cost :/

I'd be curious to know what all you're getting for that. What did they say to expect for HP? Are they doing anything to the internals, trans, or anything else for that price? If you're not going crazy with the HP, you could do a Stillen SC way cheaper, but maybe not get as much out of it, but maybe not have to deal with your trans slipping due to too much hp. Lots of good info on this forum for boosting this platform.

I honestly would not do it. I don't know much about cars, but I have a feeling that going forced induction will put the car at risk of blowing up. If it were me, I would rather use that 14k as a down payment for a pre-owned Q50 RedSport 400 and call it a day lol.
