Can you guess what clutch I have and throwout bearing noise
I've had my 2008 g37s 6mt for 3000 miles now and it's been great. All fluids were changed before I purchased along w/ tires and brake pads so I've just been driving it and having fun. It was dealer serviced and I talked to the dealer today but didn't have my vin handy. I'm going to try and get the service records from them tomorrow and form a winter maintenance / track prep plan.
From what I'm reading here I doubt I have the stock clutch. I haven't driven a known stock car to compare it to. I have 100k on the clock and was going to change the clutch this winter if mine was original. I don't think it is original and the clutch feels strong. I'm guessing I have a single mass flywheel and newer clutch. Does this transmission have an inspection plate? I can hear some transmission noise when idling in neutral w/ the clutch engaged but it doesn't sound like a diesel truck like others on here and it's not too loud or embarrassing. I'm due for an oil change and I'm going to take that chance to get the car high on jack stands, explore and get to know it better. Since my clutch feels good I wouldn't worry about it much except my throwout bearing just started making noise when cold. Now it takes 10-15 min of driving for the noise to go away. It's a bearing squeal whenever I push in the clutch. The bearing squeal is loud and embarrassing.
What clutch do you think I have? The car seems really quick revving but that's hard to quantify. It idles at about 800 rpm and takes a decent amount of throttle to take off in 1st. The engagement point is in the middle of the pedal stroke. Engaging 1st at ~1500 rpm seems to provide the smoothest take off. The car seems really easy to kill considering it has 330 hp. The 1-2 shift is actually harder to make smooth than N-1. If the revs are too far off or I don't let it slip enough 2nd gear engages w/ a jolt. After that it's pretty smooth sailing like most cars. If I quit trying to be buttery smooth the clutch grabs firm and chirps the tires. The car is a blast to drive and has been perfect until this throwout bearing squeak. It looks like the bearing is part of the CSC but I'd hate to drop the trans just to change those. I'd also hate to buy a $1300 clutch flywheel package that I won't need for a couple of years. What do you guys think?
