Motor mount replacement

2012 G37 COUPE. 35k miles
Just curious, the dealers told me that my motor mount needs to be replaced, not broken but worn out? Does it sound right to you guys? Especially for low miles? He said its wear and tear and the weather here in vegas etc etc...

It’s funny. I worked at Mercedes in Dallas (where all their other dealerships are) I called PP Vegas to see what my employee discount would be for a bumper. Well it was still more than I could buy locally. Told the Vegas guy I’m gonna pass. His response “but you work at Mercedes I know you can afford it.†I said “no I’m interning here, not making that muchâ€. The guy is dead serious and continued trying to tell me I can afford expensive things because I work at Mercedes. Needless to say, that isn’t how the rest of the park place brand is ran. But the one experience I had with PP Vegas wasn’t good.

Yeah I dont know who to trust here , my service writer was off due to a surgery. I was just trying to get my oil change and after inspection I guess they noticed the motor mounts. I wished I know more about cars.

Idk about the g37 but when I had my g35 I would hear knocking when I went over speed bumps. Sounded like hitting the frame with a hammer. You could also shake the motor by hand and see a lot of movement. Maybe that will help

Sounds suspicious. It easy to tell if you really need new mounts. Would this be out of pocket or warranty pay?

Did you take your G into the dealership because you thought you had a bad motor mount? What symptoms were you experiencing? I've only owned one car where I had a broken motor mount and it was obvious because the engine would make a loud noise when I stepped on the throttle. That car (Ford) had a broken motor mount at under 40K. I've never had a broken motor mount on any of my other cars (imports) including cars those that I have driven over 210K. For our cars, yes, I would say very unusual to have a broken mount at 35K even with the dry heat in Vegas.

Open hood, get a friend to give it throttle and watch the engine. Should be fairly obvious if the mounts need replacing. Is your car still under warranty? If it is, I would be hard pressed to believe that they would put motor mounts under wear and tear. It isn't like a clutch or brakes in that the owner has a lot of control over the wear.

Well keep in mind, I know of quite a few g35 that have broken motor mounts. On the 35 I think it was fairly common. Things may have changed on the 37. Hell things may have changed since the DE

took it there for just a oil change, and they inspect what worn out all the time.
My rears are being changed too, that one I knew its coming. There are small vibration but not much, dealer said I can wait if I can its just they noticed its worn out so I told them to go ahead and change it.

Why are you worried about it then? You'll get new mounts, just pay your $100 dect. Is this Infiniti Elite?
