I read on the 370z forums that even the 34 row was too cool for TX unless the car is a dedicated race car? I probably misread the post, but it made me scared. I want too track the car, but daily drive her. So what a 25 row cooler is what I need in Dallas?

Sorry for the thread jack.

If you use a thermostatic plate adapter, won't matter. Has a built-in thermostat that doesn't allow oil to flow to the cooler until it's past proper operating temperature. If you're just daily driving, a 19 row would probably be just fine.

It also depends on the car and just how hard you're running. If you're out on track with a completely stock setup and taking it easy, the 34-row is most likely too much. Throw on R compound tires, mods, and push the car hard for a 30 minute session, you might be in the right range. If you're running forced induction like ttv36, AND really pushing it at the track, you might need two 34 rows like he mentioned.

So probably a 25 row with a thermostatic plate then. I'm not boosted, just tune and supporting mods, but I'm not looking to do autocross so much as road courses. After going to Bonduraunt, road course of bust!

Use the 34 row and drive around like you normally do while monitoring oil temps. If you feel it's not enough the. Later on add the 25. I use a 25 and live in the Middle East where it's always burning hot. Still in 'winter' while driving to work I have trouble getting the engine to ideal operating temps as the oil cooler is over cooling the oil even with the thermostatic adapter.

Have you checked to see if the thermostatic plate is still working? It should be fully closed until the oil reaches the preset temp (probably 200 degrees). They can fail although I've heard the newer ones fail shut instead of open. You can actually blow a bar/plate oil cooler running cold oil through it.

Have not checked the thermostatic plate functioning yet. I have the z1 oil cooler and parts. Same issue I face with the over cooling reported on the 370z forums as well. Many are using a oil cooler block off plate especially in winter.
