I have the same issue, which started when I got an oil change at a new dealership. I wonder if it has to do with the oil they use.

I had the tick and had the dealer use their synthetic ester oil. Worked at first but the ticking came back soon after the oil change, especially on hot starts. I then tried Royal Purple and it's been silent ever since. Some Walmarts are now carrying Royal Purple as well.

So I hit 50k sunday and it was time to change the oil. Used Eneos 5w30 full syn. The valve tick is mostly gone, but that other noise is still there..
Thinking I have an engine issue???? there seems to be no problem in the performance.
I'm lost. I'll just live with it and when I take it to the dealer about the gauge lights I'll have them listen to it..

Update: 1000 miles on this oil, seems worst, makes the noise more often. Gas mileage got better. I'll give it a lil more time, then change it again, try a different oil.
I'm going to take it to the dealer soon, so I will ask them to check it out.

If you have everything off, yes you can hear it in the cabin.

Ok, so I went back to regular full syn oil, because the ester based oil didn't do anything.
Took the car to dealer for some work. Had them check out the noise. They replaced the fuel damper assemblies, there are two.. It has not made that noise since, it has been a week. I'll keep everyone posted if the noise comes back soon..

09 g37, part numbers
22675-jk20b
226575-ja10a
they also changed part #
175571-ey00a clamp injector?
16618-ja101a seal o ring

I hope that helps anyone with a similar issue. and my extended warraty covered the replacements.

Hmm, it hurts to be right, just kidding, I am glad your problem is fixed, hopefully for good. I have the same noise, I am living with it for now but will eventually fix.

I think I may be having this same issue. When I first heard it, I was at idle with everything off, clutch pedal in, and it almost sounds like the bumping/thumping as OP described. I can hear it on my car under light acceleration now and it has been driving me nuts! I've been really nervous that it was a knock but this gives me some hope..

Hey Smitty37g!, you said the dealer replaced both of the fuel damper assemblies last October and the noise went away. Has the sound come back at all? I've been told it's not worth the hassle etc, to do anything about it for different reasons. I'm just curious (as I'm sure lots of people are) because I'm probably going to get it changed out soon since the sound is annoying the crap out of me! Thanks for all the info btw!

Well, The noise is not back, and i drive aggressively. I know I have put almost 7k miles if not more since the fix.. So far so good.

The sound annoyed me, cause it almost sounded like a rod knock.. But I have an extended warranty on my car, so the fix was covered.

If it ever comes back, Ill post up about it..
