Failed Emissions - no communication with OBD
Hi All - any of you ever come across this...yesterday I went in to get my emissions done (2012 G37) at a local Firestone and it failed.
Apparently the issue was that there was "No Communication With OBD" as the reason. The guy at the desk said they've seen this before on the Infiniti but he couldn't tell me what the cause would be.
I was told to go to the stealership and have them diagnose it...for a co$t I'm sure.
Anyone one familiar with this?
sorry if I'm asking this in the wrong section.
Thanks in advance

That is an odd issue to have. All G35/G37s use a common protocol (ISO 15765) for OBD communication.
Has any aftermarket items been added to the car? Sometimes the installer re-routes the power from the OBD port for their own uses.
If you have meter you can check the OBD port for power, otherwise take it to the dealer.

I dont believe there are any mods - I bought the car last year from an Infiniti dealer. I think I have a meter at home I'll try to check for any power on the port. I may have to contact the dealer :/

get a cheap odb2 connector and use your cellphone with torque to test.

never heard of a odb2 problems on G35 or G37 before.

Does your car sit a lot? Mine was sitting for a week and a half, then i took it to emissions and it failed. I took it back a week later after driving around a lot and it was fine.
I think instead of no communication, the error might have actually been OBD readiness error.

@ iCrap - This is my daily driver. Only time it sat for anytime was in the parking lot at work up until noon-ish when I took it to get the inspection.
I'll buy the OBD II scanner and also check with a multimeter for any power. I've checked the interwebs and this may be fuse related and many say that the OBD shares the same fuse as the cig/car charger. which i had to replace a little while back because the charger wasn't working. It is still currently working so maybe on the Infiniti the OBD's fuse is somewhere else.

*Update*
I tested with a multimeter (first time using one...thanks youtube vids) had power to the OBD pin 16 and the pin 4/5 readings were all normal grounds.
Checked my fuses again no issues there. I still plan on buying an OBD II scanner but I ended up going to a local Advance Auto and hooked up to their scanner for free. All readings were normal and no issues with "no communication with OBD".
This was on Saturday. Today I went to a different emissions testing facility and passed with no issues. I'm going with Tech error at Firestone.
Came upon this on different forum regarding the OBD port power and "Extended Storage Switch" although mine was ok and switch pressed in this might help others...http://forums.nicoclub.com/obd-2-por...e-t602810.html
Thanks all for the help...like everything else I'll take this as a learning experience.
