Okay, so I apologize in advance for adding yet another CSC/CMC thread to the many I've already read through. That said, I'd like some informed opinions on my situation from those in the know please.

Briefly: 66k miles on my car. 2nd OEM CSC just blew out. I've ordered the Zspeed HD CSC and the dealer has agreed to install. They dropped the tranny and checked the clutch components, which they said look fine. I've read several threads suggesting to replace the Clutch Master Cylinder so I told the dealership and they said my Clutch Master Cylinder is fine as well.

So my question is: Is it really a bad idea to not replace the CMC at the same time as putting in the HD CSC? I don't want to blow out the Zspeed CSC because the Master wasn't replaced and messed it up.

Yes, it is a bad idea not to replace it. It's not expensive. Do it.

It seems like you know you should and are either seeking validation of that or looking for someone to tell you you don't need to. Look in the reservoir and see if there is any black sediment in the fluid or settled to the bottom. That's master cylinder seal material. If you see that, there's your validation.

Yes, from what I've read on this site I feel like I should, but it's another $550 in parts and labor at the dealership (where the car currently sits with the transmission out waiting for the HD CSC) and with them telling me I don't need to do it I'm kind of at a loss...

 

I guess what I'm really wondering is if I don't replace the Master, am I risking damaging my new HD CSC? Or if/ when the clutch master goes out I can just replace it then?

 

That quote is a little high. Part can be found for about $150. Labor $150-$200.

Can you do it without replacing it? Sure. Should you? NO.

 

I probably should have mentioned I'm in Canada, so that's Canadian dollars (plus 13% sales tax on top of it! lol).

Keep in mind the Master cylinder is a wearable part, if you don't replace it today, you'll have to down the road anyway...

 

i'm in Canada, and paid to have the MC replaced when the dealer was replacing the CSC under warranty. iirc, the cost was between $375-$390 after 12% tax. that was about a year or so ago. Vancouver area. part cost was ~$130-140 CDN.
