Car wont start, no key indicator on

Hello Guys,

Can someone tell me the troubleshooting steps for a 2010 G37 Coupe that will not start. Key is in vehicle holder and battery is charged. Power comes on when you push start button but car shows no key. It has to be a fuse somewhere but I can't find it. I checked the fuses under the hood and below the dash. All good.

battery is charged? did you replace the battery? I was under the impression when I first got my G that the docking station "charged" the FOB, but researched and found otherwise. My signal from the FOB was getting weak and so I replaced the battery and like new again.

Yeah best bet is to replace the fob battery, if you still have no luck take it to the dealership

I thought putting the key inside the car holder would bypass the need for a battery. At least that is what I was told when bought the car. I'll try the spare key and see if that works.

I believe the docking station is only to send a signal/data to the cars computer. If your FOB has no juice, then it won't recognize/locate it. The battery is inexpensive at Walmart. Mine was a CR 2032 3V battery and only a couple bucks for a 2-pack. The replacement is rather easy to do. Just pull the key from the FOB, using a tiny screwdriver, separate the seam of the FOB, replace battery, snap back together. DONE. If you are uncomfortable with doing it, there are youtube videos of how easy it is. I think the video is 45 seconds lol.

Pretty sure your correct here... The only real purpose of the Fob craddle is to allow you to start the vehicle in the case where the fob battery has no juice.

This is a long shot but I remember reading a thread a while back where another member was having a similar issue as OP - If my memory serves, the key would only function if the valet piece was removed... Cant recall what the solution was but something to try? (after fresh batteries of course)

so if someone had a spare FOB, removed the key and battery, they would have a tool to carjack any G!?

No... because the Fob piece and the key piece are both specific to 1 vehicle...

The problem I'm describing is:

Fob Working:

Fob Not Working:

I understand what you are saying. Just weird that it works with no juice and just pulling the key out makes it work. Makes it "seem" like anyone with a fob could start your car. More I learn about the G, the more I think it was built by aliens. Makes me miss my Subie. This car makes no logical sense. I'm a simple kind of guy.

Can't really help but wanted to mention I've gotten a few NO KEY messages lately too, with the key and recently replaced battery in pocket. The car told me the battery was low in the key (cool feature), so I replaced in both keys as I bought the car used. It's a 2009 G37X.

Hey all

This is a quote straight from my owners manual of a 2010 G37X;

-INTELLIGENT KEY BATTERY DISCHARGE-

"If the battery of the intelligent key is almost discharged, the guide light of the intelligent key port blinks and the indicator appears on the dot matrix display.

In this case, inserting the Intelligent key into the port allows you to start the engine. Make sure that the key ring side is facing backwards as illustrated (Yea no one can see this obviously).
Insert the Intelligent key into the port until it is latched and secured."

Then it continues in bold lettering...

"THE INTELLIGENT KEY PORT DOES NOT CHARGE THE INTELLIGENT KEY BATTERY. "

It then goes on to describe where to look in manual to change battery and the like.

So yes it WILL start car provided the fob has some battery power left.

Hope this helps!
