Rough idle

Sometimes when I go to turn my car on and it's in park the RPMs goes to 2-3000. Is this normal? I'm at the dealership and the guy says that's normal when the car has been sitting for awhile.

Rpm should settle down under 1k with a minute or so.

Should only do that on cold starts... And even at that 3000 RPM seems a bit high. 2k sounds about right

Agreed, between 2k and 2.5k is normal and it should settle down pretty quickly. Once you start pushing 3k, especially during the summer, it gets a little suspicious.

I think mines is around 2k. So it's normal for the cold? It's been hot in Houston for awhile and its been doing it. Should I just take it to another dealership?

Mine rarely exceeds 1.7k rpm on cold start.

I don't know what is normal range. However, on cold start, mine gets around 1700-2000. Then, as the temp needle move above the first tick mark, it drops down to 900-1000. Going from cold start to the temp needle moving up to the first tick mark takes about 45seconds to 1.5minutes (depending on ambient temp).

I hope this helps.

Same. cold starts around that, then drops to 600-750 rpms. once cold start has completed.

I am in Dallas, so I imagine temps are not TOO drastically different. 3k is awfully high.

temps really don't have anything to do with it. All about how long the car has been sitting there. Could be 105 out and if it's the first time I've cranked it, RPMs will jump up and I'll get the dreaded cold start noise. But 15 seconds later it's fine.

Try resetting the ECU. I reset mine after I cleaned the throttle bodies. At first it started at 2k and I just let the car sit and idle for 5 mins and it dropped it down to about 700. Haven't had any rough idles since.
