Help!! Mechanic Put 6 Quarts of oil in car!

Got a oil change yesterday, and my mechainic put in 6 quarts of oil even tho, i told him to crack the 6th and only put 1/8th in...

What do i do? When he checked the dip stick it was way above the the top hole..

Is their a way i can take some out throught the dipstick??

Do i just go back?

Don't really know what to say to him considering he is a family friend.(dont want to sound like a ****)

Is their anything that can happen in my commute tomorrow to work because of this overfill? 15 degrees tomorrow morning

THanks guys

Drain into a clean pan and refill, that's what I'd do, I wouldn't drive it when overfilled that's for sure.

Loosen the oil filter, drain some oil. Recheck level. Keep doing it till the level is correct.

No, that's a mess and a PITA.

Just do what Brad said... drain it completely and start over.

Ridiculous. You call this guy a mechanic and yet he can't even properly fill the correct amount of oil for a oil change?

1. You even told him how much to add
2. It's 2016 anyone can simply Google the correct oil fill capacity for any vehicle if unsure.

I don't know about you, but i wouldn't trust him doing a tire rotation.

Lossen drain plug most of the way and let some oil out until you get 3/4 a quart out. Then retighten and check oil level. That or do what Brad said.

Having too much oil in the crankcase is almost as bad as having too little. You've already done some damage by "beat the **** out of it yesterday" and now you want to "baby it tomorrow" before you correct the problem? You must not care much about your G to treat it like that!

Here's the problem with just loosening the drain plug. These cars use a strange compression type copper drain gasket. It compresses when you tighten it. Once compressed, it doesn't decompress when loosening. If not replaced, there's a chance you may get a leak.

I should ask, did he even replace the drain gasket??

So, as this is a family friend and his screw up, he should pay for a proper oil change by a qualified technician.

With respect to tire rotations, if this guy can't do a basic oil change, it's possible your wheels may fall off after his rotation! Or you'll end up with warped rotors because he overtorqued the lugnuts.

You don't have to replace the crush washer every time. I have never heard a g owner on the forum leaking oil due to reusing the washer.

I personally replace it every 3 oil changes. Never had a problem.

Wouldn't do this as you're likely to get any sediment from the pan straight into your engine.

Where I am they do oil changes during lunch time with conventional oil for $19.99. Bite the bullet and do another oil change than buying a new engine.

Note that Brad said "into a clean pan".

Normally I would agree with you. I'm comfortable reusing the washer for the diff or gearbox as it's just a standard 2.5mm or so aluminum washer. The one used for the oil pan drain plug is different from any other drain washer I've ever used. It's an accordion style copper piece that compresses to barely 1mm thick. Given this design, I'm not comfortable reusing it. It may actually take a bit more torque to seal it the second time around too. Washers are cheap to replace, stripped out oil pans are not.

To the guy above that mentions flipping it around, what purpose does that serve? Your probably deform it more removing it. Not sure how long nissan has been using this copper accordion design, but doubt it's 3 decades.

So, ymmv. If you're ok reusing it, go for it. Name: Z3fzxYA.gif
