The magnetic plug captures particles that would otherwise go through the oil pump. If you have ever seen what these catch you’ll know why it’s a good idea to use one.

Mobil 1 Synthetic 5w-30 5qt jug
Purolator filter (the longer one)
Fumoto drain valve (with nipple for attaching hose)

Same reason as the washer: costs virtually nothing. Then they're nice and clean ready to go. There actually is a schedule for the plug in maintenance. I think it gets changed when the radiator cap gets replaced. If not, I don't care, I like too.
