Question 4.08s - quality of shipment. should I exchange?

Hey all!
I just received my 4.08s in the mail today and was super excited until I noticed a small chip on the corner of one of the teeth... Everything else looks fine but this one chip. Should I do an exchange on this? Or am I being too picky? I'm not sure if this won't matter once installed or if it could cause problems... Maybe it's just my OCD or maybe it's a legit concern... What so you all think?

Thanks everyone'

Hmm, interesting dilemma, was the pkg damaged upon arrival? I wouldn't be happy about that considering it's such a precision fitment, I'd for sure contact the vendor as I doubt that would pass inspection. Or maybe I'm just overly paranoid.

Everything was beautifully packaged from Zspeed. I mean well packed, wrapped, neat and organized.

I wouldn't worry about it but would contact the seller for a piece of mind. The teeth itself is still in good shape so function will occur seemlessly

I don't know. That would always be in the back of my mind.

To get that kind of damage, was it dropped? Is there a defect in the metal in that area? Will heat and pressure maybe cause it to get worse in the future?

I mean, who knows, but it would slightly bother me.

I dunno, if you aren't in a huge hurry and it won't cost you anything to return them I'd do it, you paid for a perfect ring & pinion and it isn't. But I just stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night so I may not be the best source to ask, lol.

This was the response I got when I asked more questions.

"Since it is on the corner it will not hurt anything, It will never hit that regardless as the gear faces ride in the center of the gear, If you look at the orange color paint, this is what they use to check the gear face contact area at the factory, This is where the gears will ride and you can see where the orange is worn off in the center areas.

Shoot me a better pic if you can and I will be able to tell for sure.

I can send a return label if you want to send them back, Once they get back I will ship the new set out. You would need to get them out today to make sure we have enough turn around time."

It makes sense to me, and it's well outside if the worn area in the paint. I'll double check with the shop who will install them, but I think it will be fine.

Nice to hear the vendor was willing to do whatever to satisfy the customer, sounds like you've got satisfaction, look forward to hearing how you like the new gearset.

If the vendor is willing to do a no hassle exchange, that's what I would do. Props to ZSpeed,

Agreed. Seems like a no-brainer, no-cost move for the OP. Just have to wait a little bit longer for the install.

Subbed for install/post-install feedback on these gears.

Another vote for exchanging the gear.

Like I said, it would always be in the back of my mind that one of the gears teeth is chipped.

Why take any chances....the gear/pinion is under very high pressure and heat.

OP already stated vendor wanted gears shipped back same day to do the swap. That was like 4 days ago, so he's already made a choice one way or the other. He just hasn't gotten around to post about it, so I guess all our ongoing well intentioned advice is kind of a moot point.
