It looks very interesting and if you get the Torque app for $5 you can monitor all kinds of cool stuff including 0-60 and 1/4 mile times and get hp and torque numbers.

Yep, works great!! Both the torque app and the obdII scanner. Only thing is the torque interface is a little hard to navigate. I used a couple times and then lost interest lol...Although to me it is worth it for the simple fact you can clear fault codes.

 

i got this one..... it was more useful to me before i bought I got my uprev cable. I used it to check different levels and codes... mostly afr and temp. now its just to clear the p2a00 whenever it decides to show up (RARELY ever tho)...

 

I tried out an ebay cheapy and it wouldn't work. Would eventually like to get a BT scanner for my torque app. Just gotta find one that's rated well and won't cost me $100.

 

I had a ELM327 bluetooth obd2 plug that I bought from eBay for less than $20 bucks. I used it with the Torque app in my previous car. I had it since 2012.

It's now 2015 and I tried using that same Elm327 bluetooth reader for my 2011 G37S and it works just fine with the torque app.

You definitely do not need to be spending over $20 for a decent bluetooth reader.

By the way you guys should not be calling it a "OBD2 Scan Tool". Sure this thing can "scan" for DTC and reset them and show you PID values but it is not a true scan tool.

A true scan tool costs anywhere from $2,000 - $6,000 and can activate modules for testing, calibrating and diagnosing purposes and show live data and graphing for numerous sensors..

 

you can get these cheap ones for around $5-8 shipped. mine works just fine for reading codes and clearing them with torque.

Figured for $7 it couldn't hurt much.

It works great. Came with a mini CD to talk to a laptop though I just use my phone. And the Torque app was free- though for $5 it does a lot more.

 

Hmm...I may try again. I've heard of people getting duds. For the price, can't hurt trying another time or two and see if it works.

 

I've seen a couple different styles of these scanners.

But duds are definitely a possibility! I bought a Wi Fi bridge that worked great.... for 3 weeks.

 

Some of the cheapo ones will be duds, that's just part of the game really. I was lucky and got one that worked no problem, one of my friends got a dud the first time and was good after that, another guy I know got 2 duds in a row then was fine.

 

What app are people with iPhones using for OBD diagnostics? Is there a go-to for iOS?

 

Torque seems to be the one to use. Not sure of any others.

 

Torque is Android only.

 

when buying the chinese ones buy various different models in bulk, i bought 4. luckily after one year the first one still works and i have gifted the others

 

Few years ago I bought 4 or 5 different ones on amazon. None of them worked correctly on all the cars we had at the time. Timing and connection issues were common. Someone from here or the 370z site recommended the PLX KIWI. It costs alot more but did work correctly with the cars in the household. Consider yourself lucky if the cheapy elm327 dongles work.

Agreed torque is the best android app for this. That coupled with the nissan add-on https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...eeo.niadvanced gives you access to more PIDs than regular obd (inc VVT oil temperature). There's an infiniti version of this add on too. It wasn't available when I bought the nissan one. Suspect they're the same thing just labeled differently.
