G37xS - AWD and Trans Questions

Hello, I was wondering what the consensus on the G37x AWD system was? How well does it handle certain conditions (both weather and performance dry conditions)? Does the system take performance modifications well?

Since the x would be on automatic Gs, how is the automatic trans on this car? I hear it has an adaptive capability to it. Does that work well? What are some downsides to the G37s automatic trans that I should look for? Any positives that you all want to share?

I would appreciate any info you can give. Thanks.

The G37xS ATTESA system transfers power from the rear tires only if the system detects a loss of traction. It works well in changing conditions and here in snowy Colorado, works well enough that snow tires aren't necessary. But this system is sophisticated enough that modifying it is well beyond a simple DIY.

As for the 7-speed auto, it works in conjunction with the ECM to adapt to what the driver is demanding. Haven't heard of what lind of output this drivetrain is capable of handling, but it can take 328 HP all day long.

I have my G37x coupe tuned to a little over 500AWHP and had to build the transmission. I do not think this is necessarily because of the AWD but the 7A/T. I have not had an issue with the transfer case yet (knock on wood).

I've been very happy with the coupe's awd system. It is not full time, but engages when the system senses the rear slipping.

The transmission is great. Rev-matched down shifts in sport mode are awesome. The transmission does sense your driving, as aggressive driving will increase line pressure to execute shifts faster than regular driving. Also it is a sealed transmission, so if you look through the owners manual you will notice the lack of scheduled transmission fluid changes.

Downsides? Um... some of the earlier builds (pre 2011/2012) may still have an older version of the transmission software, so it may not shift optimally. I took my '12 in to the dealer to have them check the software version, which needed to be updated, and it made a big difference in shifting rpm & smoothness.

Excellent info guys. Keep em coming.

So, the AWD... I know that cheaper AWD units disengage if the wheels are turned past a certain angle, or you are giving the car full beans around a corner or turn.

If you where driving a AWD G, and you went to take off from a light or entrance... With the wheels turned to the right to go down the street, then hit the gas, would AWD kick in at that angle and help? In wet or dry?

Lets take it a step farther. Say you drifted the car a bit out of a turn. Would AWD in the G sense the slip and send power up front during this scenario?

Or does the system not handle those more performance oriented situations?

I know that even pushing a hard turn from a stop at WOT, it is hard to get my G37xS to break free even with VDC off. I believe they transfer power as well as possibly applying brakes to reduce wheel spin (may be wrong). I have not been in a situation where I had enough open pavement to get the car sideways at greater speeds so I can't speak to that yet. Someone that's done some autocross may have better info on drift characteristics.

What year did Infiniti start including the new ECU flash that fixed the 7AT shifting everyone talks about?

Started the reflash TSBs in early 2010 IIRC (for 2009+ models) and lasted through the mid 2011 models (again IIRC), the models built since then don't require any reflashing.

I have a 2011 G37xS sedan love mine will probably lower it on Swift springs soon, just not sure what size wheels I can put on without messing up the AWD system/sensors. Any help? Suggestions?
