*LOW* mpg help, service.

Hi all,

So after having my for about a year now, it's to say my mpg is **** compared to others and advertised...

I do not drive aggressively and I coast to all stop and go traffic. I'm getting about 7-9 city( NYC) and barely getting 17-18 highway. Zero mods except air filters.

I recently called a local dealership and will be having a diagnostic test and possibly EFI service all done under basic warranty coverage. Anyone think this is normal?

P.S: Im the 2nd owner. 2011 g37x 33k mileage. Original owner was a lease return.

how many miles do you get from a full tank? what kind of fuel are you putting in?

lower grade than premium will net less mpg. you may also attempt a ecu reset to start fresh.

You car's mileage isn't that low unless you have a fuel leak. That computer may not even be close to correct. Figure your MPG by dividing your actual number of miles traveled by the exact number of gallons used. It involves performing mathematical calculations.

I highly doubt if you fill up your tank and drive in the city you will be on the gas light in ~119 miles (17 gallons of gas @ 7MPG). Why 17 gallons instead of 20? That's about when the gas light turns on.

TO ALL WHO REPLIED:

I haven't calculated mathematically what my mpg are. I've just been following what's being read on that screen.

In my screenshot, I don't think it's a full tank, If I remembered correctly I hit the "reset fuel economy", and drove around the block and that's what showed up and I took a picture of it.

IF the G37 mpg calculator display is correct, there's no reason why I'm getting 7-9 mpg city. I also only fill up with 93 octane, at all times. My maintenance are all up to date as per owners manual book, at 35k mileage.

Thanks.

That figure isn't close to correct. Calculate the mileage in the ONLY way possible to get an exactly correct answer. Most people don't have a clue as to how the trip computer works. If you drove around the block you probably did get 7.8 mpg for that half mile you actually drove. Why would you think that's representative of your car's actual mileage? If you want to feel really great about your car, find a highway in a hilly area and reset your computer as you top the hill and then coast down the hill. You'll be elated to find the same car now gets 100 mpg!

The computer figures mileage dynamically. A one block sample size is like answering one question on a test and assigning a 0 or 100 grade for the class based on whether you answered it wrong or right. Drive for a full tank or two since you reset it and report what it says. Or better yet, use the calculator and get the true number and report that.

The issue is you hit the "reset fuel economy". At that point the computer begins recalculating your fuel consumption and miles per tank. This happens every time you reset. If you reset and go right onto a highway you can get it to say over 500 miles per tank. As you drive and the computer has more data it becomes more accurate. Also, this is why it stops calculating with 3 gallons left... because the average driving you did prior to the last 3 gallons is unimportant. If you were on the highway the whole tank it would say you had 20+ miles left with 1 gallon left but if drove locally to the gas station you would run out of gas.

Hi all. The lowest I've ever seen is 7 mpg after resetting. Prior to the reset , the highest city mpg I've had for 2-3 month period without resetting is 10mpg.. City only . I truly believe there is something wrong.

You are correct!

The best I've seen after a fill up reset and a 50 mile drive to work.
MPG is highly dependent on outside temperature and humidity.

The lower MPG shown above was short local trips while in Florida. The rest are all highway miles.

I do a reset on every fill up. I only use regular 87 octane.

I usually purchase my gas here.

Did you check your alignment? Stick piston(s) in brake(s)? How many city miles do you drive? Stop n go or gridlock style? You should know that the EPA estimate WILL vary based on the amount of traffic. EPA gets their city numbers from calculating 31 minutes of driving in a course of 11miles with 23 stops while averaging 20mph. So if you are nowhere near this, you'll never achieve the window sticker mpg.

As mentioned in my earlier post, i live in one of the 5 boroughs of NYC.

There's a stop sign OR red light at every end of a block. And I have to yield for pedestrians if I'm making a turn.

With that said, I expect atleast 11-13 mpg city, from what I've read on the G37 MPG sticky thread section from other users on this forum.

Yet, I'm still only getting 7 - 9 MPG. My car has never seen above that strictly city, and when I took my car on a road trip to upstate NY, it's never had above 17 mpg highway.

Telcoman is getting 29 mpg........is he driving a prius that looks like a g37? what the hell

Try to fill up the car with shell or chevron a teir 3 gas statio premium gas, reset the fuel econmy, reset yout trip odometer, and drive it until the next fill and see how the car does and post it on here

Even for regular gas that is pretty bad fuel economy i have twin turbo and i get better fuel economy than that
