Help Stillen SC upgrades recommendations?
I have heard good things about the Frozen boost intercooler upgrade, however everything I have read about this 9psi pulley seems to end in tears, not too mention Stillen doesn't advertise any pulley upgrade for the kit so that in and of itself is a bit telling to me...sounds like ANMVQ has the most experience here though. Would love his take on a potential part # for a pulley upgrade or if it's even worth the risk.
Shawnberry, what other mods do you have, your numbers are solid, was it a Dynojet? My numbers are from a Mustang on 93 octane, Uprev pro-tune fyi.

Personally I would love some opinions on how to push more boost on this platform, sounds like GTM products are now a gamble, based on what I am reading in the forums which sucks because they had some sick stuff Now outside of GTM, I have seen only two other company offering engine upgrades (Z1 and Import Parts Pro- and have no experience with either, however it seems a lower compression block is what would be needed to push more boost on the VQ.
Z1 VQ HR / VHR Performance Shortblock (Stage 2)

Hey man
I would do the Frozen boost heat exchanger for sure! Even on a built block I wouldn't up the boost on the Stillen kit. The biggest hang up on their kit to run more boost is the placement of the MAFs. Pre SC doesn't really work as the don't read the actual air or temps entering the motor :/.. I have plans ( Not sure when) But I was thinking about getting a used kit missing parts or not, Keeping the stock intake plenum ,custom making the piping and placing the MAFs in the stock location, An Air to Air kit would be nice also. But the wife and I are looking at getting another house so this is WAY on the back burner. But maybe someone else could explore this option. If not then STAY away from any boost upgrade.
Also wasnt sure you where asking about the 9LBS pulley , That you get from Stillen but have to sign a waiver. Or the Cog set up.. The other thing you could do ( Don't recommened) is the impeller up grade( Vortech), I wound up only running this made 12 PSI and BOOM
..
Cog set up part numbers,

Vortech 2A033-030 30 Tooth 35mm Supercharger Drive Cog Pulley
This was a good upgrade also
Turbosmart TS-0203-1022 Kompact 25 mm Dual Port Universal Fit Blow Off Valve

Hey thanks for the reply man, I appreciate the input.
So any input on if folks have had any stability using that 9lb pulley or the cog setup? Did you run either before you did the impeller? Also. are the UPREV GT MAF upgrade worth while? I hit limp mode every now and then and its so annoying, car wont accelerate over 3k and bucks until its reset
Just curious, what is the benefit of this on a non-turbo application? Turbosmart TS-0203-1022 Kompact 25 mm Dual Port Universal Fit Blow Off Valve

No problem, Sound only on the BPV on the stock kit, I was looking for more boost and the stillen BPV wouldn't hold the boost. You shouldn't need the UPREV MAF's I had them but again was at 12 PSI. If you hitting limp mod there is something else going on. I had a MAP CEL one time threw me into limp. I had my tuner adjust the threshold on it and it never came back.
I know others will chime in on the pulley and cogs but stay away. trust me..

Thanks again, looks like I may be relegated to a few final bolt-on's to try to breach 400WHP and 300TRQ, my initial numbers were 339WHP with the Stillen tune, after pro-tune we hit 390WHP, this was with Stock cats, though the next week I blew the honeycomb out of the cat and it was just rattling around in there, so I replaced those with FI Double Resonated Test Pipes, the note is really sweet coupled with the FI CBE. I may consider headers but seems like poor ROI for a mod...
Welcome any suggestions to breach 400/300 on the dyno, sounds like Shawnberry and I have similar car's, 08 g37s with Stillen SC and Uprev tune, interested in what other mods you have to get to 430/340 you're claiming?

Did you return with the TPs? And if your at 390 your fine as long as everything is safe. Every dyno out there is different and set up different.
Exp: I went to a "new" place for me to get some testing done because my place was booked.
I made 252 WHP and 218 WHTRQ. :/ My buddy was just there getting tuned and made 316 WHP. The only difference in our cars is he has Stillen headers. :O 75 WHP from headers!! LOL
I was at usually place just at this past weekend and made 287 WHP 228 WHTRQ. Numbers are only numbers. Use them to see gains only and you'll be fine. Chasing numbers is just not good.

Good points, and thanks for being the official G37 canary in the coal mine for # chasing lol =P Probably saved many others a lot of headache by sharing your experience.
Interesting article I found...motor pops at first but seems like they got it straightened out and with 9psi pulley:

DOMO
Thats Diegos car , I've talked to him ALOT durning his build. He's good people. And he the 9 PSI is on the stock pulley, I was seeing 9 PSI in stock form also
. I'm not sure he has it anymore tho I see him all the time with his GTR. Vollsen Wheels rep.
Oh cool, I could have sworn the thread said he was using the upgraded Pulley, not sure why I can't get above 8psi, as you can see in the Dyno initial tune was at 7.6psi, upped it a bit and timing a degree and hit the final tune #'s. I did do some maintenance to her since the dyno , changed the plugs (which were ugly) and changed both SC belt and Serpentine Belt, also now on the Test Pipes, I may go back and do a few more pulls after I do the Frozenboost or Headers and see where it lands now.
Any suggestions on some good gauges? I currently have no boost or oil/tran temp gauge.
Pictures of my ride and Dyno for anyone interested:

Ok so gauges are a MUST have , I ran prosport EVO digital gauges, Boost, oil and trans temps, and AEM AF gauge. You wont see over 8PSI cause you have TP's on a SC you loss boost with a less restrictive exhaust. Even Stillen says to keep the stock cats. I had stock cats and 2.5 cat back was seeing 9 PSI.
Car looks good man, Sorry had to use m phone to see the pics( Work blocks photobuctek).
Wheel looks like my old TSW
.
Is your car a X ? If not whys the dyno line so squiggly? Thats what mine looks like but I have a X car and the car fights the dyno.

Hey thanks man, the dyno was with the stock cats actually, then +1 week honeycomb blew out of drivers side and it was rattling like a *****-snake so I had no choice but to put the TP back on (had them on before then went back to stock), not going to buy new stock cats and the FI test pipes do sound quite nice so if its a loss, its a loss im willing to accept given the circumstances.
So regarding the BOV...is this just a safety measure and cool factor at best? Just curious if it is really
a worthwhile mod? Also thanks for s uggestion on gauges, EVOS are perfect actually, I want to maintain the blue theme the car has going started by the prior owner anyway (Car has blue interior lighting and ironman 180 blues on the headlamps with a switch). Only question is I didn't see a tranny temp gauge, just 'water' temp...am I missing something?
Regarding the frozenboost upgrade, do you know of any real data on why this is a better choice than the stock kit one? Frozenboost site really touts no 'specs' as to why its above and beyond stock, just wondering if everyone jumped on the bandwagon with this upgrade without hard data...sorry it's the nerd in me, but if I worked for Frozenboost I would hire a persuasive writer lol, the description of the product reads like a ingredients list on a milk jug :P

Hey man there is documents of the Frozne boost making more WHP, theres I guy over on 370Z that installed it and made back to back runs. Cooler air and he made more WHP. His screen name slips me but its there .. The BPV is just a cool factor. But IMO i dont like the plastic BPV oR BOV anyways I always changed them on my DSM cars.
The Prosport gauges you didn't miss anything. I had a water temp gauge and hot the light RED
for trans fluid,

Looking into the Frozenboost upgrade, I cant seem to determine which length and also size stainless steel line I need, I know it says the fittings on the heat exchanger are 1/2" however the hoses all reference an AN rating, i.e. -6 or -10 etc...not seeing any correlation between the two, how do I tell what hose will fit?
