critically low transmission oil!

critically low transmission oil!

Hey all.
My 08 g37s have been been acting weird lately. I felt a delay in gear change and my cars performance seemed slower.
Today I checked my transmission oil and it was very low. Almost nom existant. I have the 5AT model.
What do you think is the problem ? Could be a huge leake from the transmission body ?
And do you think I damaged my transmission a lot driving with low fluid ?
I am extremely worried!

Yikes, first off are you seeing any leaking anywhere? Transmission fluid is normally red and disgusting. Is the car jerking when it changes gears?

I didn't notice any leaked tbh bit the car is definitely jerking! How bad is that ?

Bad. It's bad. The only thing to do is refill it, and drive to see if it still sucks. It really all depends how long you've been driving on it.

Opt for the full flush and refill, don't just top it back up.

When's the last time you had service done? It is not unheard of for less prestigious service centers to drain things (oil, transmission, diff) and forget to refill them.

im wondering how you checked it?? the trans is closed and has no dip stick... if your trans is low i dont think youd know unless you drained the trans fluid... but id have it checked out by the dealer depending how many miles are on it and if youre in warranty it may have a bad valve body

I bought it used a few months ago. And I only changed the oil and tires.
I have a dipstick behind the engine for transmission oil.
But there's no way to fill it.
Should I arrange to take it to the Infiniti service center ?
Or try to fill some oil from dipstick and ser how it drives.
This is my first car and I am worried it will cost me a fortune.

On a side note, most transmission fluid changes are very similar between different makes and models, much like how oil changes are similar. If you can do an oil change, you can do a tranny fluid change.

There is much debate about a full "flush".

Get a long funnel. You should be able to find them at your local auto part store or even Walmart.

Unlike 7AT trannies, 5AT's do have dip stick.

Take the car to the dealer, they will put it on a lift and look it over. If there is no evidence of a leak, they mat flush and fill. Transmission fluid should be changed about every 30 to 40k miles. You never said how many miles is on the car or the year.

There's actually a whole procedure for doing it. Engine/trans temp have to be within certain ranges. I don't remember the details offhand. It's not as simple as pulling the plug and sticking your finger in like in the manual

Edit: If there is a dip stick then it can be topped off/filled. Still, read your owner's manual for exact details of when to check.

My mid 80's gm required the car to be at operating temp, parked on a level surface and go through all the gears before checking level.

I am taking it to a mechanic today and hoping for the best. I checked the oil level again yesterday and it was very disturbing. Barely a bit of oil on the stick.
I am hoping that the leak issue can be fixed easily too.
If I want to sell the car in this condition how much % discount should I expect ?

My car is 2008 model with a 60k mileage
