so we had a lot of rain in CT and without realizing it a lake formed on the street i was driving down and well you can guess the rest. my car is all stock in the engine bay, i had it towed back to my house at 2 am. insurance paid for the tow and rental. i did make the mistake of trying to start it, twice... the water id guess was a foot and half deep at most, none got in the interior, the air filters were drenched. im waiting on the claims adjuster now but you wanna know the worst part? i had just ordered lowering spring on friday and this happened early sat (1 am)

i had paid the car off last october, half of me hopes its not totalled but then again i dont wanna get some ****ty hack job of a repair cuz the car ran great prior to this. On the bright side i have been looking at cars to replace it with, maybe get back into a proper manual.

anyone have any experience with this? also before you tell me i shouldnt have tried to start it, im aware and wasnt thinking. how about some ideas on a replacement cars? new or used, has to be fun to drive and not a money pit. my car is an 09 g37x with 51k on the clock.

Sorry about what happened, that stinks. Just grab another g, if you liked your other one then why not. Also you can put those springs you ordered to good use;-)

 

i do like the g but the 7at is pathetic, maybe ill look for a g37s sedan in red :O

 

Did the engine rotate when you started it or it didnt do anything ?

 

nothing at all its been sitting since saturday and i dont even want to try to turn it on again.

 

Years ago my car did not have a hood, it rained and water got into the engine via the carburetor. I removed all the spark plugs, remove the air filter and crank the engine to remove the waters. Car ran fine for a long time after that. If you actually have water in the engine, you want to clear it out as quick as possible, change the oil, dry out all the electronics and it should be fine.

 

S sedan 6mt would be a great replacement. 7at is a hit or miss type of thing, some people love their while others hate it. Good luck with whatever you choose!

 

I had a minor lockup happen to me a couple years ago. It was from my CAI with a guy pressure washing my car for cleaning it, the idiot!

Anyways I was able to get it working again after pulling the intakes off and cleaning them. I think it was just the MAF sensor that was wet. That was a safety shutoff. After doing that I did not have anymore issues. Although I also Changed my CAI, so that helped too. lol.

Hope your car starts working again. Try cleaning the MAF sensor very carefully! And when your at it, the entire intakes as well.

After all that is done, disconnect the battery for a couple hours and then try again

 

i already filed a claim with my insurance. i really wanna take a peak at it and see if i can get it running but that doesnt mean there isnt something wrong with the engine. also im parked on a bit of a hill so i dont really feel comfortable jacking it up onto jack stands cuz of the incline.

oh im really leaning towards a subaru brz, i know ya'll will hate that but im kinda sick of my car wallowing around turns :P

 

Sorry that happened to you, but going to a BRZ is going backwards. If you're interested in handling performance then you should have been looking at the S or a regular G37 with the intent to upgrade IMO. The power difference will be night and day between the two.

 

im sorry but a thousand pound difference will make all the difference in handling. Dont get me wrong id def miss the HP of the g but a car that is amazing to drive all the time would probly make me forget. nothing is set in stone atm since idk what happening with my car, id rather they just fix it since it'll save me a lot of money but a new car would be nice.

 

It's your money buddy, but if it was me and I was looking for a two door coupe coming from a G, it would be the Camaro ZL1 or the SS with the 1LE package which is in the top ten fastest production cars ever ran on Laguna Seca. If your looking for handling, the BRZ is at best tied with the Miata in most categories which is a shame because the Miata hasn't made any real improvements in a while. The BRZ and FR-S missed their tagrget IMO.

Im a G guy what can I say. I'd stick with the G (hell there are a bunch of already modified G's for sale on my37. Some TT'd!) I laugh whenever I see a BRZ because I've only seen kids driving them that wanna go fast. Too immature looking in my personal opinion.

Best of luck with your G man. I really hope its repairable I couldn't imagine the heartache it must cause not knowing whats going to happen.
