I've never been able to figure out DS compares to sport modes in other cars. I find it odd that it still tries to go into 7th at 40mph. It should always have the RPM's above a certain point when in DS. I've found that even taking a corner at slightly elevated G's, and just tapping the brake, will cause the tranny to down shift more aggressively. I think there are a lot of factors at play. In my Evo, it kept the RPM's above 3500, no matter what. This kept it within turbo spool range at all times for a more instant response. This made far more sense to me than what is in the G.

same here seems to me Infiniti hasn't done a really good job programming the tranny with it's 7 gears, I always find myself with no on demand power when I need it, especially after a turn on the local streets...

When I'm in DS mode and come to a curve it will usually down shift to 3rd and then shift to 4th coming out of the curve, but it will stay in 4th for WAY too long. I will either have to let up considerably on the gas or keep going at pace until it eventually shifts to 5th, 6th and finally 7th after probably a mile or two. Does anyone else have this issue ? I'm waiting for the tranny to drop so I can get a new one (still under warranty) that actually works right. I also have the dreaded lag and other common 7AT issues. I haven't had a chance to take it to the dealer yet (45 miles to nearest one), but will probably do in the near future.

Also remember, if you are in regular D mode you can drop a couple gears or more with the paddles, and if you don't switch gears for 10 seconds it will switch back to automatic. But if you are in DS mode and switch gears with the paddles the gear selection stays in your control until you put it back into D mode. If you find yourself coming upon a situation such as merging or whatever, don't rely on the tranny to be there when you need it sorry to say. I always drop the gears myself beforehand, you just need to anticipate a little.

And- beware of the "DOH I forgot I was in manual" huge embarrassing rev up when the light turns green.
