Shell gasoline without ethanol

I THINK I have found a Shell station in Connecticut(Guilford) that has fuel without ethanol. There is no warning on the pump and the manager told me that there is no ethanol in the fuel. He sounded like he knew what he was taling about. I ordered a couple of ethanol test kits and I will try and verify in a later post.

Up here in Canada, all the Shell fuel pumps have a sticker which says V-Power (91) has no ethanol. 87 has 10% and 89 and 5%.

Shell is the only gas I use, butt dyno feels a different and gives slightly more mileage.

ill be honest. when i made the switch from E10 93 octane to 91 octane pure shell, i did not notice any difference, either in power or mileage. I guess i just use it for peace of mind, but from what? Carbon buildup? IDK. i may switch back only because its usually about $.50 more per gallon than other brands of e10 93 octane gas

Uhhhh, ethanol is good for your car guys....higher ethanol content=higher alcohol content = higher octane/poweroutput and burns cleaner.

Thats why most people with race cars (incl myself) run E85 which has 85% ethanol and 15% gasoline, thats equivalent to 100~108 octane and is WAY cheaper than race gas.

Why would you not want ethanol in your gas?

Maybe because of this in the manual:

CAUTION
. Using a fuel other than that specified could adversely affect the emission control system, and may also affect warranty coverage.
. Under no circumstances should a leaded gasoline be used, because this will damage the three-way catalyst.
. Do not use E-15 or E-85 fuel in your vehicle. Your vehicle is not designed to run on E-15 or E-85 fuel. Using E-15 or E- 85 fuel in a vehicle not specifically designed for E-15 or E-85 fuel can adversely affect the emission control devices and systems of the vehicle. Damage caused by such fuel is not covered by the INFINITI new vehicle limited warranty.
. U.S. government regulations require ethanol dispensing pumps to be identi- fied by a small, square, orange and black

Instead of guessing at the real percentage of ethanol in a fuel, I am just going to try and use no ethanol fuel.

Hes talking about using E85 in a race car NOT his G. We all know E85 in a G37 will kill it. But he is right some ethanol is good for a clean burning engine

Don't know about the G, but you can tune other cars such as Evo's or STI's to run E85. In any case, for a DD, E10 or pure gasoline should be and you might not be able to tell the difference between the 2.

I usually fill up with Shell. Haven't seen any in NC that offer that. Going to pay closer attention, next time I full up with 93 and read the ethanol levels.

Can I test gas myself to see if it contains ethanol?
Yes, and it's quite easy to do. Inexpensive fuel-testing kits are widely available, or you can just do it yourself: (1) pour a small amount of water into a narrow jar (an olive jar works great) and mark the water level with a Sharpie; (2) add the fuel to around a 10:1 fuel:water ratio; (3) shake well, let settle for a few minutes; (4) see if the water level has risen above the mark. If it has risen, it has combined with ethanol from the fuel.

Info from about pure-gas.org

inexpensive way
