Substitute for Pennzoil Ultra....

It looks like all of my local sources for Pennzoil Ultra (at a decent price, anyway) are going to stop stocking it.

Car is still under warranty, I wanted to try and stick with something 5w-30 an PU was it (based on the UOAs).

Assuming I cant get it anymore, what would be the next best thing? Id like to use Mobil1 0w-40 but while its under warranty wanted to stay with something 5w-30.

Thanks.

Forgot to mention....Walmart IS my local source, and they are stopping carrying it. 2 of the 3 local walmarts dont even have labels on the shelves for it anymore, just Platinum. 3rd local WalMart has 5-20 and 10-30 on the shelf, clearanced. No 5-30 left.

I dont know of any other local store (Advance, NAPA, Pep Boys, AutoZone) that carries it in the 5 qt jug, and if they do have single quarts they want almost 10.00 each

Really?? Where you at? Around here (chicago), it seems to be a popular item.

Located in southwestern CT.

Reached out to my parents in VA and one of their local stores has plenty...but according to Walmarts website the rest of their local stores have limited or no stock. I just cant depend on them bringing up oil for me whenever I need it

Plenty of Pennzoil PLATINUM to go around, but ULTRA is becoming scarce. Like no one wanted to pay extra for it (look on Bob is the oil guy forums for all the "SOPUS screwed up the marketing for Ultra" posts). Didnt help the bottles look almost exactly alike, except Ultra is more expensive.

I can tell you what I'll do if this is true. I'll go buy enough oil to do changes for another 100K miles or so and save it in the garage. Sad if its going away everywhere.

Ya'know, Pennzoil Platinum is the next closest thing and still really good.

I dont think Ultra is going anywhere, at least I cant confirm it right now.

But it seems Walmart is definitely going to stop carrying it (already has in my neck of CT, Fairfield/New Haven county)

I have 10 5 quart jugs being imported from VA Parents wiped out their local Walmart.

While Im sure Platinum is a good oil, all of the UOAs, anecdotes, etc with the G37 and Ultra make me not mind spending the extra few bucks per jug (and actually right now if you can find it on clearance, Ultra is CHEAPER than Plat)

10 jugs is basically 5 years worth of oil changes for me. I never come close to the mileage since I dont drive the car that often, I end up changing it just because the oil is "old", and even that might not be an issue anymore (are modern oils better at resisting condesation, acidic buildup?). But I figure 2 changes per year is good enough....6 months is about what it takes me to put 4K miles or so on the car (and sometimes even less than 4K)....maybe I dont even need synth, but 2 oil changes per year I dont mind spending the little extra for peace of mind (and the whole "anything for my G" montra)

Yep, this.

My parents managed to find 10 5 quart jugs. Since I dont touch the mileage limit (even for dino!) in 6 months, Ill use 2 jugs per year. 5 years worth of oil changes, good enough for me.

It was still full price down there but no biggie, since I cant get it on clearance up here anyway.

Now I just need to stock up on a deal for PureOne oil filters and Ill be good to go for a while.

I cannot find it at any Walmart in Omaha, either. I, instead, bought PP and am hoping for similar results. I can't justify $9-10 a quart for PU from NAPA... at least not yet.

Just an update: I just bought the last 20 quarts available at two of my local Walmart stores in Omaha. I talked to a manager at the site-to-store pickup counter and, after scanning one, he said it was no longer in inventory. He said they may carry it again but not anytime soon.

I bought 2 cases of PureOne filters at Advanced Auto parts 2 years ago!!
Cheapest deal, with promo codes. Use code MC18 for 15% off, also everything over $75 ships free. That would be under $5 a filter when you buy 15.

Use the PL14610, which are the longer ones, a 5.23 Qt jug is perfect.

BTW, Using PP with PureOne filters since new, and do not burn any oil!!

Using PL14612 and Penn Ultra since new. Have 38K miles now. Doing it every 5K. So it's okay to use PL14610? What's the difference between the two? Aside from length.
